SCORES Analysis

Adobe Systems Strengths

Adobe’s Cloud applications business is built on the twin pillars of Marketing Cloud and Creative Cloud with the former providing marketing automation and site analytics functions and the bulk of the Cloud applications revenues.

Marketing Cloud is designed for advertisers and digital marketing professionals who are increasingly hard pressed to reach their target audience amid a highly fragmented media landscape. Adobe has simplified their task by creating a dashboard that combines analytics, social, advertising, targeting, web experience management and cross-channel campaign management.

Five years after buying Omniture and other marketing automation applications including the 2013 takeover of Neolane for cross-channel campaign management, Adobe has quadrupled the revenues of the Marketing Cloud division to $1 billion level by gaining more dollar shares among its target audience – marketers that are hungry for audience data as well as effective tools to drive those numbers to their advantage.

Creative Cloud covers Web content management tools like Photoshop and Illustrator. While Marketing Cloud has been available as Cloud subscription services since Adobe acquired Omniture and its marketing and analytics tools in 2009, Creative Cloud is a more recent offering that has caught on like a wild fire. Since its introduction in May 2012, Creative Cloud has seen the number of subscribers climb to 7.0 million, generating over $3 billion in annualized recurring revenue by the end of 2015.

Actual recognized subscription revenues in 2015 were about $1.4 billion for Marketing Cloud. Our calculation of Adobe's Cloud subscription is based on the derivative revenues comparable to those of other Cloud applications for marketing automation and content management. Revenues for developer tools, content production and delivery, and consumer applications were excluded.

Adobe Document Cloud helps organizations drive business faster and deliver superior customer experiences, on any device, by making paper-based processes 100% digital. At the heart of Document Cloud is Acrobat DC, the world’s best PDF solution; Adobe Sign, the leading e-signature solution that allows anyone to sign and send documents from any device; and powerful companion mobile apps.
