Blue Prism Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
Amongst Blue Prism customers, the bulk of RPA automation is focused on back-office processes. However, opportunities are emerging for deploying RPA in middle- and front-office environments as enterprises become more creative in using RPA. While RPA is used primarily for routine operational transactions, enterprises are finding that RPA is valuable for meeting unanticipated and time-constrained requirements such as new regulations, mergers, and acquisitions, and recruiting and marketing campaigns.
Blue Prism Risks and Challenges
There are many risks inherent in the RPA selection stage for Blue Prism customers. Some clients lack the necessary skills for self-administered automation. Some pick the wrong advisors or partners. Some clients gain too little value sourcing RPA from their business process outsourcing (BPO) providers. And while the cloud has been an emerging sourcing option, it can bring extra data protection risks, especially in highly regulated industries. Tool/platform selection can also be hazardous. Drowning in market hype and confusion, clients risk choosing the wrong tools, too many tools, or bad tools. The proliferation of vendors marketing questionable RPA has not helped either. The follow-on risk from choosing the wrong tool is experiencing costly tool lock-in and needing to find a migration exit path. There are also major risks inherent in introducing RPA to an enterprise. A major problem continues to be the old habit of getting buried in technical change and neglecting the bigger picture. One consequence of focusing intensively on the technology aspects of RPA development and deployment has been the underfunding of change management. The symptoms and consequences of poor change management include stakeholders ignoring, stalling, resisting, or derailing the automation program; initial projects failing technically, financially, or politically; and the robots not functioning as intended. These factors all pose risks to Blue Prism’s continued ability to satisfy customers.
