Ceridian Strengths, Domain Expertise, and Key Differentiators
Since its acquisition of Dayforce in 2012, Ceridian has rapidly expanded Dayorce from its origins in payroll and workforce management (WFM) into a feature-rich cloud platform for HCM with functionality spanning HR, payroll, benefits, WFM, and talent management. Built as a single application from the ground up, Dayforce combines modern, consumer-grade user experience with proprietary application architecture, including a single rules engine and a single data set that spans the entire application. The Dayforce architecture enables differentiating capabilities such as real-time reporting and continuous calculation of employee net pay whenever a time, benefits, or HR record is changed.
As of September 30, 2018, Ceridian has more than 3,450 live Dayforce customers and over 38,000 Powerpay accounts.
Ceridian Recent Developments
In October 2018, Ceridian launched new succession planning capabilities at its annual customer forum, INSIGHTS. Dayforce Succession Planning will provide organizations with real-time data and insights designed to help employers find the right people within their companies to fill key roles in the event of expected or unexpected departures.
In today’s competitive market, organizations must prioritize their talent management efforts to attract, retain, and grow engaged high-performing teams. Succession planning can enable organizations to support business continuity, increase employee engagement, and reduce employee turnover.
Ceridian launched Dayforce Compensation and Dayforce Learning in the spring, which together with Succession Planning greatly strengthens the company's talent management capabilities, furthermore, Ceridian announced it is actively working to deliver organizations a best-in-class advanced analytics solution. This will complement reporting features that make it faster and easier for Dayforce customers to build and edit reports. Ceridian also introduced plans to launch benefit decision support, engagement surveys, compensation benchmarking, and on-demand pay functionality to Dayforce.
In July 2018 Ceridian launched its cloud-based platform, Dayforce, in the UK market.
Dayforce customers operating in the UK can benefit from Dayforce’s combined payroll and deep workforce management functionality to engage their people, simplify processes, and work smarter. Dayforce is the only single HCM platform of its kind in the UK market.
With the expansion of Dayforce, including the addition of native UK payroll, employers in this market have access to the same award-winning platform used by more than 3,450 customers around the world. By adopting one consolidated HCM solution, companies can transform HR processes on a global scale to better acquire, develop, schedule, pay, and manage their people. Ceridian is helping leading UK brands, including Halfords and Whitbread, to better manage their employees, reduce complexities, and improve compliance.

Ceridian Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
Dayforce is the only HCM platform that provides the ability to continuously calculate employee net pay whenever a time, benefits, or HR record is changed. This unique capability is the foundation upon which Ceridian is building the on-demand pay functionality of Dayforce, which will be available in 2019.
With a growing number of employees experiencing financial challenges and living paycheck to paycheck, companies today are more mindful of how financial pressures impact employee well-being and productivity. Dayforce On-Demand Pay will enable employees to request a payout of their earned wages when needed, in advance of a formal pay period. This will allow companies to help ease the financial pressures of their employees and in so doing, improve employee engagement and productivity. As the war for talent intensifies, particularly among hourly workers, the ability to offer pay on-demand will be an important differentiator in attracting and retaining talent.
Dayforce On-Demand Pay represents a goldmine opportunity for Ceridian to boost wallet share among its installed based and attract new customers.
Ceridian Risks and Challenges
Ceridian’s transformation into a cloud HCM provider in the short time since the Dayforce acquisition has been remarkable. Dayforce has grown at a CAGR of more than 60% since 2012. The company is strategically focused on maintaining this strong growth trajectory through building on its strong North American base to expand globally and by targeting larger enterprise customers. Ceridian’s expansion may entail certain risks given that the entire company needs to scale every aspect of its operation.
Ceridian Ecosystem, Partners, Resellers and SI
Ceridian launched the Dayforce Software Partner Program (DSPP) last year to create a software partner ecosystem aimed at helping organizations easily connect other HCM-related solutions with Dayforce. The DSPP provides Ceridian software partners and application developers access to Ceridian’s APIs, making data available across Dayforce and partner solutions.
