Ceridian Strengths, Domain Expertise, and Key Differentiators
Since its acquisition of Dayforce in 2012, Ceridian has rapidly expanded Dayorce from its origins in payroll and workforce management (WFM) into a feature-rich cloud platform for HCM with functionality spanning HR, payroll, benefits, WFM, and talent management. Built as a single application from the ground up, Dayforce combines modern, consumer-grade user experience with proprietary application architecture, including a single rules engine and a single data set that spans the entire application. The Dayforce architecture enables differentiating capabilities such as real-time reporting and continuous calculation of employee net pay whenever a time, benefits, or HR record is changed.
Ceridian Recent Developments
In May 2020, Ceridian launched Dayforce Wallet – an on-demand pay solution. Dayforce Wallet leverages the Dayforce platform’s unique continuous calculation capabilities for an accurate, on-demand payment, instead of an approximation of earnings. It disrupts the antiquated concept of a fixed pay period – allowing people to be paid in real-time, at any time.
The launch comes at a time when making ends meet is of heightened concern, with many individuals across income levels and employment types living paycheck to paycheck. Using the Dayforce Wallet app, employees can request a payout of their earnings whenever they need it. They can also manage their finances, check their balance, and track their transaction history.
In 2019, Ceridian sold the two largest deals in Dayforce history: a 140,000-employee quick-service restaurant, and a 60,000-employee professional services company.
Ceridian Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Activities
In May 2020, Ceridian has completed the acquisition of Excelity Global Solutions Pte Ltd. (Excelity), an Asia-based HCM service provider from the Everstone Group. Excelity works with more than 300 customers across the APAC region. Excelity delivers over 1.2 million payslips per month. Customers include Forbes, Volvo, Emerson, Oracle, QBE, Palo Alto Networks, Mammoet, Lufthansa, Uber, and Mondelez.
In September 2020, Ceridian has completed the acquisition of Riteq, an Australia-based provider of enterprise workforce management solutions. Founded in 2001, RITEQ has operations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, New Zealand, and the UK and serves more than 325 customers.

Ceridian Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
In the past year, Ceridian expanded its global footprint to the APAC region with recently acquired RITEQ and Excelity. Ceridian also introduced the Dayforce Payroll in Mauritius, Australia and New Zealand.
Dayforce is the only HCM platform that provides the ability to continuously calculate employee net pay whenever a time, benefits, or HR record is changed. This unique capability is the foundation upon which Ceridian is building the on-demand pay functionality of Dayforce, which became be available in 2019.
With a growing number of employees experiencing financial challenges and living paycheck to paycheck, companies today are more mindful of how financial pressures impact employee well-being and productivity. Dayforce On-Demand Pay will enable employees to request a payout of their earned wages when needed, in advance of a formal pay period. This will allow companies to help ease the financial pressures of their employees and in so doing, improve employee engagement and productivity. As the war for talent intensifies, particularly among hourly workers, the ability to offer pay on-demand will be an important differentiator in attracting and retaining talent.
Dayforce On-Demand Pay represents a goldmine opportunity for Ceridian to boost wallet share among its installed based and attract new customers.
Ceridian Risks and Challenges
Ceridian’s transformation into a cloud HCM provider in the short time since the Dayforce acquisition has been remarkable. Dayforce has grown at a CAGR of more than 60% since 2012. The company is strategically focused on maintaining this strong growth trajectory through building on its strong North American base to expand globally and by targeting larger enterprise customers. Ceridian’s expansion may entail certain risks given that the entire company needs to scale every aspect of its operation.
Ceridian Ecosystem, Partners, Resellers and SI
Ceridian launched the Dayforce Software Partner Program (DSPP) last year to create a software partner ecosystem aimed at helping organizations easily connect other HCM-related solutions with Dayforce. The DSPP provides Ceridian software partners and application developers access to Ceridian’s APIs, making data available across Dayforce and partner solutions.
