Cisco Systems Strengths, Domain Expertise, and Key Differentiators
Cisco designs and sells a broad range of technologies that have been powering the Internet since 1984. Across networking, security, collaboration, applications, and the cloud, Cisco is integrating intent-based technologies to help customers manage more users, devices and things connecting to their networks, enabling the company to provide customers with a highly secure, intelligent platform for their digital business. Cisco’s Collaboration Cloud portfolio includes WebEx for cloud-based collaboration as well as other applications for customer service and support. The products are available as a cloud/hosted service from Cisco or its partners and service providers.
Cisco Systems Recent Developments
In October 2021 Cisco unveiled a preview of its next-generation hybrid work collaboration product. Webex Hologram is the industry’s only real-time meeting solution that takes advantage of augmented reality headsets to combine feature-rich Webex meeting functionality with immersive 3D holograms. With 64% of employees agreeing that the ability to work remotely directly affects whether they stay or leave a job (source: Cisco Hybrid Work Index), organizations will increasingly offer flexible work arrangements. Yet this poses a challenge for teams that require hands-on collaboration, such as design or training with a physical object. With Webex Hologram’s holographic capabilities, participants can now interact in ways previously possible only in person.
In June 2021 Cisco Meraki expanded IoT and WAN portfolios with new technologies to support hybrid workforces around the globe with smarter and safer workspace environments. As businesses continue to evolve toward a digital-first model for their operations, it is critical that users, employees, and customers have exceptional experiences. With expanded technologies, these experiences can easily be delivered by converging best-in-class networking, security, and IoT. From hybrid workforces to smarter workspaces, organizations can seamlessly optimize network performance across any environment.
In March 2021 Cisco today introduced Cisco Plus, the company’s unique as-a-service strategy, bringing new flexible buying and consumption models to customers. To meet its customers’ needs, Cisco is transforming its go-to-market strategy for hardware, software, and services. New buying and operations experiences from Cisco Plus provide simpler consumption and use of the Cisco portfolio. Cisco Plus will offer best-in-class networking, security, compute, storage, applications, and observability solutions as-a-service with unified subscriptions that are easy to consume, simple to use, and deliver an unparalleled experience.
Driving to Network-as-a-Service (NaaS): Network-as-a-Service is a cloud model which enables customers to easily operate and maintain the outcomes they expect to get from the network, without owning, building, and maintaining their own infrastructure. As IT teams strive to provide consistent, secure access to their growing remote and mobile workforce with less complexity, they want the benefits of NaaS models. The NaaS rollout will first focus on a cloud-based solution as-a-service for secure access service edge (SASE). The Cisco SASE offer currently available enables customers to easily leverage future services with investment protection. Cisco is planning limited release NaaS solutions later this calendar year that will unify networking, security, and visibility services across access, WAN, and cloud domains.
Cisco announced innovative solutions that will help customers embrace a new age of wireless connectivity. Wi-Fi 6 (also known as 802.11ax), the new standard for Wi-Fi networks, is redefining what’s possible for businesses — powering a new era of immersive wireless experiences and the connecting of billions of things. Cisco is also extending the industry’s most extensive campus networking portfolio by delivering a campus core switch purpose-built for cloud-scale networking. By coupling powerful automation and analytics software with a complete array of next-generation switches, access points, and controllers for the campus, Cisco enables the industry’s only end-to-end, wireless-first architecture. Cisco is rolling out several products and partnerships so that businesses can deliver a genuinely unplugged and uninterrupted experience.

Cisco Systems Risks and Challenges
The pandemic has sparked a rush toward video conferencing and CIsco's Webex has been trying to keep up with the immense popularity of Zoom in a market that should have been the unquestionable domain of Cisco. Now Cisco, which went after the high-end video conferencing market with its TelePresence systems and lost it way, is confronted with a host of Cloud-based, ubiquitous and free offerings from Google Meet to 8x8. Then there is the threat of Zoom, which rivals Cisco's market cap despite its tender age of not more than 10 years old.
Cisco Systems Ecosystem, Partners, Resellers and SI
With over 10,000 partnerships in over 65 countries, the Cisco Academy program operates in many exotic locations. Cisco relies on direct and channel sales for its collaboration products. Its channel partners include systems integrators, service providers, other resellers, and distributors. Among Cisco partners are Vocus Communications, CompuCom Systems, Inc., CDW, Accenture, Adapt, AT&T, IBM, ABS Technology, Acuative, Acuntia, Adara Technologies Inc., Absolut Info Systems, Alestra, Almaviva, AMC Technology, Anittel, ANS, AOS, Atlantic Digital, Black Box, BT, Bynet, CableCom, and many others.
In September 2021 Telstra and Cisco have continued collaboration with a new five-year agreement to provide advanced connectivity management for Internet of Things (IoT) services with Telstra Control Center powered by Cisco. Using Cisco’s IoT Control Center SaaS solution for more than 10 years has allowed Telstra to advance its business goals and grow new revenue streams. The company currently serves thousands of customers including Australia's major financial institutions, retailers, and government, offering more visibility and flexibility to better manage their businesses and turn IoT data into decisions. Cisco IoT Control Center is a mobile IoT SaaS platform serving the connected car industry. It is currently used in more than 50 service provider networks and 30,000 enterprises supporting more than 185 million connected devices. Cisco continues to work with its service provider customers like Telstra to explore 5G use cases that will drive value, including private 5G, as the platform supports both 5G standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) networks.
In June 2020, Telenor and Cisco signed the third iteration of the Joint Purpose Agreement between the companies, outlining areas where they will strengthen focus together including security, 5G, Open vRAN, B2B expansion, distributed cloud and furthering Telenor Group’s digital transformation to support its flexible working hours approach. The companies are continuing the exploration of new 5G architectures and have started an Open vRAN trial at Telenor headquarters in Norway to further investigate using a virtualized, open infrastructure to improve cost efficiency for service rollouts.
