KDS, an American Express Global Business Travel Company Strengths, Domain Expertise, and Key Differentiators
KDS is a business travel technology company at the forefront of industry innovation since 1994. The company designed the ground-breaking Neo unified travel and expense solution because they believe the user experience is key to successful managed travel programmes. Neo addresses the end-to-end business travel process and is used by both multi-national, world-class brands and more local organisations across Europe and the United States. Neo is a revolutionary unified business travel and expense software that provides business travellers with a quick and easy way to book trips and manage costs on a single platform.
KDS, an American Express Global Business Travel Company Recent Developments
In April 2019 KDS promoted the updates that further optimize and simplify its unified travel and expense software, KDS Neo, based on extensive usage analytics and new machine learning capabilities. The enhancements include upgraded Optical Character Recognition (OCR) that is now available on desktop as well as mobile.
KDS Neo uses machine learning to advance its smart receipt capture capabilities, specifically for multi-country support. OCR allows users to automatically update digital expense reports from a simple photo of their receipt.
KDS used more than 400,000 receipts from over 65 countries to teach the system to recognize all supported languages. Using machine learning, over time the system will “self-teach” to expand on languages and different types of data fields recognized by the application. For example, the technology could determine whether an expensed meal receipt was breakfast or dinner.
KDS is also exploring long-term functionality that would compare OCR data to expensed items to identify any manual changes and possibly indicate errors or fraud. Other changes to the solution-focused on increasing simplicity and user control during the travel shopping process.
The KDS Neo solution, version 18.1 update, which launched in January 2018, offers a new, intuitive search form and integrates new and updated functionality designed to make life easier for managers, business travellers and travel arrangers.
Following extensive user testing, KDS Neo 18.1 delivers a new design for the main search screen, which enables users to research and book single segments (a flight/train, hotel or car) or a full end to end trip with all parts from one simple search.
The redesigned screen improves the user experience further giving detailed explanations on how to search for optimal trip recommendations and guidance on policy compliance.

KDS, an American Express Global Business Travel Company Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
KDS marks two years of growth and innovation as part of the American Express Global Business Travel family. KDS has continued to simplify the user experience of the award-winning KDS Neo travel solution by injecting insights from usage data into its development decisions.
Over the last two years, the technology company has focused on creating the most robust algorithm that expands booking scenarios to give travellers the choice of arranging an entire end-to-end trip in one sitting, or, if preferred, request single elements of a trip as their plans progress.
In 2019, development will accelerate as the company continues to invest in its R&D, increasing the platform's ease of use and performance. As adoption of KDS Neo increases, KDS is expanding into new markets. The company has recently landed clients in the Nordics and in 2019 plans to continue its expansion in the U.S. Since 2016, the company has also been recruiting heavily across all functions to support its growth, with emphasis on tech profiles for its accelerated R&D programme.
By the end of 2018, the two-year increase in staff is scheduled to total 40% globally. Furthermore, in September 2018, mobility solutions such as Sixt mydriver and Sixt Chauffeur Service become available through KDS Neo's comprehensive booking system.
