NIC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tyler Technologies, provided more than 130 digital solutions for the government during the pandemic – from statewide, cloud-based solutions to payment processing to TourHealth COVID-19 testing and vaccine distribution. In addition, the company developed TeleGov, an online scheduling tool designed to help government reopen safely. In September 2020, the DPS became the first government agency to implement TeleGov as part of its “Skip the Line” program, and the solution was launched less than 90 days from conception.
In April 2019, the State of Maryland selects NIC’s RXgov platform to serve as its new Prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs) infrastructure.

In 2021, Tyler Technologies announced that they completed the previously announced acquisition of NIC, digital government solutions and payments company that serves more than 7,100 federal, state, and local government agencies across the nation. With the completion of the acquisition, NIC Chief Executive Officer Harry Herington is retiring from the organization. The rest of the NIC leadership team will remain in place and continue to manage operations from its Olathe, Kansas, home office. Tyler is working closely with NIC on an integration plan for the benefit of the combined operations.
To help state and local governments navigate licensing for marijuana growers, businesses, and users, NIC has acquired a platform provider specializing in cannabis and hemp licensing technology, Compila. The acquisition of Complia positions NIC to offer customizable licensing services that meet the widely varying requirements that state and city governments are putting in place as the legalization of marijuana use spreads nationwide.
