OSIsoft Strengths

OSIsoft is a manufacturer of software for real-time data infrastructure solutions, called the PI System. It delivers an open enterprise infrastructure to connect sensor-based data, systems and people. Deployed at over 19,000 sites worldwide, the PI System gives enterprises real time insight into the vital signs of manufacturing facilities, refineries, data centers and other machine-intensive operations so they can save money, improve productivity and make better decisions.

The integrator strategy at OSIsoft is aimed at linking operational technology and operational data to IT systems and cloud computing platforms such as Azure IoT and AWS. A divide often exists between OT and IT in. OT technologies for monitoring and managing machinery or transportation systems are essential for productivity and safety.

The data gathered in managing operations, however, often becomes landlocked. Integrating that data with IT systems is one of the primary objectives of IoT systems. OSIsoft’s integrator applications exist to accelerate the process by reformatting operational data for specific applications. One customer, CEMEX, reduced the time required for preparing data for company-wide manufacturing reports from 744 hours to five minutes.

The company’s Connected Services customers, meanwhile, are using the PI System to deliver preventative maintenance and other services to their customer base in a cloud-like fashion.
