In May 2020, PowerSchool launched its new Unified Insights Student Learning release, a first–of–its–kind tool, giving educators a holistic view into data they’ll need to help ensure all students can stay on track following the shift to distance learning. This new tool is part of the PowerSchool Unified Insights family of products and brings together data from PowerSchool’s Student Information System (SIS) and Schoology Learning Management System (LMS) to help users of these solutions better understand a whole view of their students. In June 2018, Pinellas, Florida's 8th largest school district, recently chose PowerSchool to modernize its financial and human resources procedures. In August 2018, PowerSchool, acquired PeopleAdmin, a provider of talent management, professional development, student assessment, and analytics solutions for education. PowerSchool's customers will benefit from PeopleAdmin's talent solutions for teachers including TalentEd and assessment tools such as Performance Matters, providing them with a full suite of technology solutions that powers all critical aspects of school and district operations. The combined entity will reach over 45 million students and 13,000 school and district organizations including 88 of the top 100 districts in North America.
In June 2018, PowerSchool has completed the first phase of its partnership with Code.org, a non-profit dedicated to expanding access to computer science education, particularly for women and underrepresented minorities. The two organizations have collaborated to install OpenID single sign-on between a PowerSchool student information system (SIS) and the Code.org learning platform. The collaboration between PowerSchool and Code.org is part of a larger partnership announced last year between Code.org and Vista Equity Partners, an enterprise software investment firm whose portfolio includes PowerSchool as well as dozens of other leading software companies.
PowerSchool Group LLC Risks and Challenges
Pearson sold PowerSchool, which serves nearly 13 million students in more than 70 countries, generated $97 million in revenues and $20 million in operating income to private equity group Vista Equity Partners for $350m. The world's largest education company by revenues, and owner of the Financial Times, said it was seeking to focus on teaching and assessment tools rather than administration. Selling one of its major cash cows would be the latest in a series of big moves for Pearson, which is coming out of a costly organization restructuring led by CEO John Fallon. Slimming down could explain why Pearson may be letting go of PowerSchool. Even though its the most-widely used SIS in the US, the tool has also been troubled.
