Tableau Software Recent Developments
Tableau was acquired by Salesforce earlier this year for $15.7 billion, but long before that, the company had been working on its fall update, new tools, including a new feature called “Explain Data” that uses AI to get to insight quickly.
“What Explain Data does is it moves users from understanding what happened to why it might have happened by automatically uncovering and explaining what’s going on in your data. So what we’ve done is we’ve embedded a sophisticated statistical engine in Tableau, that when launched automatically analyzes all the data on behalf of the user, and brings up possible explanations of the most relevant factors that are driving a particular data point,” explained Tableau chief product officer, Francois Ajenstat. He added that what this really means is that it saves users time by automatically doing the analysis for them, and It should help them do better analysis by removing biases and helping them dive deep into the data in an automated fashion.
At the end of 2018, Tableau unveiled AI and NLP tools intended to improve users' experience with its BI platform by adding smart capabilities to Tableau 2019. The same period, Tableau Software released new product integrations with industry-leading technology providers, from mapping to data cataloging, that extends Tableau’s powerful analytics capabilities to better fit customers’ needs: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Informatica Tableau Hyper Connector, Unifi Data Catalog, and Native Microsoft Azure SQL Data Warehouse Connector.
Tableau Software Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Activities
In June 2018, Tableau acquired Empirical Systems, a pioneering artificial intelligence startup that originated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Probabilistic Computing Project. With Empirical Systems’ automated statistical analysis technology integrated into the Tableau platform, Tableau customers will more easily gain insight into their data, without needing to manually build the complex underlying data models that would otherwise be necessary.

Tableau Software Ecosystem, Partners, Resellers and SI
In October 2019 Tableau Software has partnered with Databricks to enable data teams to run business intelligence on data lakes faster and more reliably. Data lakes are frequently the largest source of data within organizations, but user analytics directly on the data lake often suffers from poor quality data and performance challenges.
The new Databricks Connector, just released in version Tableau 2019.3, is optimized for performance and leverages integration with Delta Lake, an open-source storage layer that makes existing data lakes reliable at scale. Through this integration, Tableau users can now access and analyze massive datasets across the entire data lake with the most up-to-date and real-time data.
In October 2018, Tableau Software unveiled plans to deepen engagement across the channel, through a revamped partner program and product line-up. The vendor expands its global partner program with new certifications and training, backed up by support for bundled offers designed to better serve joint customers. Tabley has VAR Partners and Integration Partners.
