JTI - Japan Tobacco International is the international tobacco division of Japan Tobacco, a leading international tobacco product manufacturer. The company is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and sells its brands in 120 countries.
Scope and Challenges
To ensure JTI’s future success, the leadership felt it is essential that it improves more than just the existing reporting. With the desire to hold onto leading position within the international market, the company saw a digitalization as a golden opportunity to ensure they don’t just become an also-ran business.
The needs to update its antiquated systems was a welcomed opportunity to also initiate a technological business transformation.
In 2016, to realize these objectives, JTI quickly decided on SAP.
Outcome and Implications
JTI was a pilot customer in the SAP Value Assurance Service Packages for SAP S/4HANA program. The solution was implemented with the help of their implementation partner SAP Digital Business Services.
The first phase was moving SAP BW on SAP HANA. After implementing SAP S/4 HANA, JTI decided to implement SAP Business Planning and Consolidation.
New software solutions improved market access thanks to additional sales channels, while technologies such as machine learning and predictive analytics open up a world of new possibilities. This namely benefited financial planning and economic forecasting, which ensured a high level of precision, punctuality, and transparency at JTI.
Another reason for opting for SAP was the sandbox system, a decoupled testing environment in which business-specific configurations can be tried and tested. This enabled the team during the Discovery phase to quickly and seamlessly develop a prototype for JTI’s digital strategy without disrupting the company’s day-to-day business.
JTI will also implement cloud-based SAP SuccessFactors to manage HR processes and Concur for travel management.
