About the Customer
Alpha Industries is an American clothing manufacturer founded in 1959 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Initially, a contractor to the United States military, the company grew into an international commercial seller of American military style and fashion apparel. Alpha makes items such as flight jackets and vests and has made jackets for the military of the United States like the M65 Jacket for over half a century. The jackets are made for men and women, as well as children.
Scope and Challenges
Alpha Industries was seeking ways to improve the online shopping experience they were offering to their customers. The Alpha team set off on a discovery process to evaluate the top modern e-commerce platforms and the partners who can help go-live. Selecting a new e-commerce platform is no small task. Many established players and start-ups are continually pushing one another to offer more seller and buyer-friendly features. Companies want to provide consumers with the latest and greatest features, but also have to consider the business end of the equation such as reliability, security, and interoperability with existing technology platforms.
The Alpha team performed extensive research, viewed demos, and held on-site meetings with representatives from several platforms and implementation agencies, ensuring proper due diligence was conducted before making an investment. The Alpha team ultimately selected Oracle Commerce Cloud as their new platform to be implemented by McFadyen Digital, a digital commerce agency with over 20 years of successfully delivering such projects.
Oracle Commerce Cloud was a natural selection that balanced Alpha’s need for a scalable enterprise-class platform with the desire for user-friendly administration and the inherent advantages that comes along with a cloud solution. Advantages such as ever-improving feature updates, high availability, and the flexibility afforded by well-documented APIs, put Alpha in a strong position moving forward, as OCC integrates easily with their current and future business technologies.
McFadyen Digital was engaged as Alpha’s e-commerce partner at the recommendation of Oracle and after engaging with the Alpha team as they were evaluating the various platforms. The chemistry between the McFadyen and Alpha teams was immediate and made for a successful project.
Outcome and Implications
“The goal of this re-development project was to provide our customers with the best possible online experience, one that reflects the heritage, quality, and care we put into every one of our products,”, said Alpha Industries VP of Marketing, Matthew Pantoja. He continued, “we selected McFadyen Digital because of their long history of successful e-commerce projects and their in-depth knowledge of Oracle’s Commerce Cloud (OCC) platform. OCC was chosen as our platform because it’s reliability, security, and rich feature set will empower the Alpha e-commerce team to provide our customers with a modern user experience for years to come.”
One of the major advantages of OCC and having the implementation performed by an experienced team is that the go-to-market time is significantly less than with legacy premise-based platforms or even many other “modern” platforms. With a start-to-live time of four months for this replatforming effort, a project that would have taken at least eight to ten months in years past is now live, on-time, and on-budget in less than half the time.
Quotes
“Working with the McFadyen team was a wonderful experience. They took on our challenges as if they were their own, and kept the focus on what’s truly important; delivering our customers a special user experience. Our site development included all the features we requested and was on-time and on budget. We couldn’t be more excited about what this project means for the future of our online store.” Said - Matthew Pantoja, VP of Marketing, Alpha Industries.
“From the very first meeting with the Alpha team, it was clear was dealing with a group of people concerned with bringing the best possible online experience to their customers. They wanted all of the modern conveniences that sites like Amazon have lead consumers to expect; responsive design, high-quality imagery, accurate search results, user-contributed reviews, alternative payment methods, etc., but they also wanted to ensure flexibility for the future. This is why we recommended Oracle Commerce Cloud so strongly, in our 20+ years of implementing Enterprise e-commerce solutions, OCC is the most flexible platform we’ve ever seen, largely due to its modern cloud-based architecture.” Said - Tom McFadyen, CEO of McFadyen Digital.
