About the Customer
Ballance Agri-Nutrients Ltd. provides fertilizer products. The Company manufactures and distributes a wide range of products such as phosphate, sulfur, granular fertilizers, and horticultural products, as well as offers nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium fertilizers. Ballance Agri-Nutrients markets its services throughout New Zealand.
Scope and Challenges
The vision to combine information and processes in a manageable and scalable way to deliver a consistent and efficient customer experience across all customer channels, Ballance’s future plan of a ‘connected farm’ was with the main goal to create new business opportunities through digital transformation by becoming a ‘data integrator’ across the New Zealand agriculture industry.
They wanted a solution that leverages multiple SAP HANA applications to combine information and processes in a manageable and scalable way to deliver a consistent and efficient customer experience since they had difficulties with customers that could not compare orders to quotes to determine planned vs actual expenditure. It was also difficult for customers to comply with legislation as there was no proof of placement.
Outcome and Implications
The deployment had three key strategic solution areas, each relying on SAP HANA for data consolidation and advanced analytics served through the Hybris Commerce and Marketing platforms. SAP S/4 HANA and BW HANA were completed first as independent “big-bang” deployments followed by the customer-facing digital channels adopting a “phased rollout” approach.
The end result is a consolidation of internal SAP and Non SAP data within multiple HANA applications combined with complementary external data sources and leveraged across B2B commerce and marketing channels with embedded geospatial and D3 graphical interfaces within hybris commerce pages.
The benefits were obvious immediately, reporting that used to take to 2 hours was cut to 20 minutes and the processing time of orders by customer services staff was noticeably reduced, also their online orders were 70% reduced among others.
Quotes
“Our goal is that every farmer will have an online, interactive digital farm map accessible from any device. They’ll be able to see on which paddocks they’ve applied nutrients and get proof of application from the trucks that spread the fertilizer. They will be able to order directly from the map, see the status of their orders, and access their fertilizer plan for the year.” Mark Wynne –CEO Ballance Agri-Nutients
