In 2017, Centrica deployed Serrala FinanceSuite as its AP Automation platform to centralize Accounts Payable processing and cash application workflows across the group. The implementation supports group wide Accounts Payable volumes of approximately 3m invoices and was stood up alongside an onshore delivery team of 25 and an Indian offshore BPO comprising 215 staff at the Genpact Hyderabad centre, with a stated target to expand the offshore finance footprint from roughly 15 percent to 50 percent as part of a broader finance operating model shift.
The Serrala FinanceSuite deployment covers core AP Automation functional modules including invoice capture and processing, exception handling and workflow routing, vendor payment execution, and cash application orchestration. General accounting controls were integrated in scope through balance sheet reconciliations and staged journal automation using BlackLine, and continuous improvement activities included RPA development and process optimization to reduce manual touchpoints.
Integrations were implemented with enterprise ERPs, specifically SAP and Microsoft Dynamics, with cash application processes linked to Hanse Orga and reconciliations tied into BlackLine, enabling Serrala FinanceSuite to act as the transactional orchestration layer between source systems and downstream accounting. The solution design emphasizes centralized invoice flow and payment orchestration across regional operations, including newly incorporated US operations, while maintaining system-level controls and auditability consistent with AP Automation best practices.
Operational governance was structured across Tier 1 delivery and Tier 2 oversight. Tier 1 delivery encompassed group Accounts Payable, cash applications and general accounting activity, while Tier 2 responsibilities covered BPO governance and contract delivery, internal controls, process ownership and documentation, continuous improvement, and stakeholder management including voice of the customer and NPS monitoring. The rollout aligned with a group wide finance transformation that shifts higher value financial control and FP&A activity to the outsourcer, creating explicit accountability for process governance and ongoing service delivery.

In 2018, Centrica implemented Workday Absence Management to centralize absence workflows across HR and business stakeholders. The deployment was executed as part of a broader Workday Journeys program that included core HCM, Onboarding, Recruitment, Absence and Performance, aligning absence processes with employee lifecycle events.
Workday Absence Management was configured end to end, including business process design, testing and deployment of absence policies and entitlement calculations. The implementation included creation of complex Calculated Fields, Workday Reports and Dashboards, role based Security configuration, and the orchestration of Business Processes to support request, approval and return to work workflows. A comprehensive review of all 187 active business processes was undertaken to streamline notifications and ensure system features were fully utilized.
Integrations and data exchange were supported via Enterprise Interface Builders, and Workday Extend was used to create supplemental JavaScript based applications to enhance employee journeys. Governance was formalized through stakeholder engagement with senior leaders and a network of HR and business contacts, focusing on managing interdependencies and reducing notification noise. The program explicitly aimed to drive organisational efficiency and effectiveness and to reduce the number of notifications stakeholders received while supporting consistent Absence and Leave Management across Centrica.

The solution is underpinned by AI technology from the Microsoft Azure cloud platform and integrates with Microsoft 365 applications such as Power BI, Logic App, Flow and PowerApps to provide analytics, orchestration and low code extensions. These integrations deliver real time actionable insight to operations teams and enable customer notifications and field engineer interfaces for up to date service visibility.
Rollout covered British Gas field operations across the UK and emphasized governance around operational visibility and data driven planning, following Centrica's transition to Microsoft Azure. Public statements on the program cited reduced manual effort in planning and dispatch and improved ability to keep customers informed with accurate and timely information, positioning the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field Service implementation as a central element of Centrica's Field Service Management modernization.
