The move to Intel’s recent processors for vRAN marks the latest solution optimization for Mavenir, which has driven Open RAN momentum through three generations of Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
In February 2020, Mavenir launched off the Evenstar Remote Radio Head (RRH), in collaboration with Facebook Connectivity, MTI, Deutsche Telekom and other partners. The goal of the program is to accelerate the adoption of Open RAN technology.
Mavenir Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Activities
In August 2021, Mavenir acquired Telestax Inc., a Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) enablement and application provider to the communications industry. This acquisition enhances Mavenir Engage, Mavenir’s omni-channel messaging monetization and customer engagement offerings.
In 2021, Mavenir took on a private placement of $500 million from Koch Strategic Platforms, a subsidiary of Koch Investments Group. The minority investment was a deal that positioned the company to grab more traction as firms adopt next-generation 5G networks.
Mavenir acquired Aquto, a provider of mobile sponsored data and data rewards. Aquto's cloud-based sponsored data platform brings new capability to Mavenir's portfolio of carrier revenue generation products by building a bridge to the mobile marketing and advertising ecosystems. Mitel acquired Mavenir Systems for $560 million. Thus the first incarnation of Mavenir came to an end. Two years later, as the result of the merger of established company Xura with the Mavenir Systems part of Mitel and the startup Ranzure, a new company named Mavenir was formed.

Mavenir and Goodman Networks made a collaborative partnership to deliver OpenRAN solutions and services in the United States.es.
In April 2020, Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), India’s leading telecom operator, has expanded Open RAN based deployments in India with OpenRAN solution providers. VIL’s OpenRAN has been deployed on multiple Cell sites and are carrying commercial traffic since December 2019. The deployment has been carried out using Mavenir’s Open RAN solutions for 4G which provide dis-aggregated solutions using CoTS equipment and new Radio partners. VIL is committed to OpenRAN and will extend the deployment of TDD and Ma-MIMO sites in other cities this year. Vodafone Idea has done the largest deployment of Ma-MIMO in India substantially enhancing capacities in key markets.
In April 2020, Turkcell continues to develop its virtualized infrastructure since it launched its unified telco cloud in 2016, in line with this goal, Turkcell also transforms LTE and 5G voice network into 100% virtual infrastructures. Mavenir has been selected by Turkcell to deploy its cloud-native, NFV-based IMS solution, for Turkcell’s home country Turkey and other subsidiaries.
In February 2020, Mavenir has successfully deployed its cloud-native, converged IMS solution for both T-Mobile Czech Republic (TMCZ) and Slovak Telekom (ST). This common and harmonized solution is designed to significantly reduce existing footprint, provide network simplification, and therefore achieve significant cost savings for both operators.
Mavenir touch more than three billion people through 250 customers and enterprises in 140+ countries such as: Telekom Srbija, Deutsche Telekom, Turkcell and many others.
Mavenir Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
In May 2023, Mavenir raised $100 million for a new capital raise. Siris, a private equity firm specializing in technology and the biggest equity holder of Mavenir, led the capital raise. Additionally, two ecosystem partners also participated in the raise. This investment enables Mavenir to further scale business and maintain leadership in Open RAN and 5G transformation
In June 2020, Mavenir, introduced the advanced new features in Mobile Business Contact—its cloud-hosted, contact center as-a-service (CCaaS) solution—to enhance the mobility of subject matter experts and customer service representatives. The new features include flexible call routing (routing of voice calls to any mobile or fixed phone line combined with a low-bandwidth web-based console for omnichannel interactions), Computerless representatives/experts (by calling special campaign numbers to activate or deactivate call routing to their personal phone) and offline campaign mode (supervisors can configure agents’ personal phones in the campaign and, if workers can’t use their office phones, activate offline mode to have all calls automatically routed to their personal devices).
Mavenir Risks and Challenges
Mavenir faces challenges, including Moody's downgrade, with a Caa1 rating indicating high credit risk. The drop in sales, particularly in radio access network (RAN) products, has led to a market share decrease and expulsion from the top-five mobile core vendors. The company's heavy reliance on Dish Network, adds vulnerability, especially with delays in deploying Mavenir's solutions. Moody's attributes the downgrade to economic uncertainties, slower-than-expected radio deployments, and a significant delay by a major customer. With open RAN investments and R&D costs exceeding 50% of revenue, Mavenir's aggressive growth strategy and governance risk may further impact its financial outlook.
Xura changed the company name to Mavenir Systems upon completion of Mitel Mobile acquisition. Mavenir Systems, which was acquired by Mitel in 2015 and rebranded to Mitel Mobile, established its industry leadership in 4G LTE mobile solutions. That helped define the market with a series of industry firsts, including the world’s first live network deployments of Voice over LTE (“VoLTE”) and RCS5 with MetroPCS (now T-Mobile), and the first mobile network deployment of IMS-based Voice over WiFi (“VoWi-Fi”) with T-Mobile US.
Mavenir Ecosystem, Partners, Resellers and SI
Mavenir's Open RAN Partner Ecosystem provides more options and makes it easy for operators to deploy an innovative, flexible Cloud-based OpenRAN solution. It acts as the End-to-End systems integrator simplifying the engagement for operators and creating an offering that is on par with the traditional, hardware-centric proprietary vendors.
