In September 2021, Rockwell Automation, a worldwide company dedicated to industrial automation and digital transformation, announced that it has completed the acquisition of Plex Systems, the leading cloud-native smart manufacturing platform. Plex offers the only single-instance, multi-tenant Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) manufacturing platform operating at scale, including advanced manufacturing execution systems, quality, and supply chain management capabilities. In May 2020, Rockwell completed the acquisition of Kalypso, LP. In January 2019 Rockwell Automation has acquired Emulate3D, an innovative engineering software developer whose products digitally simulate and emulate industrial automation systems. By using accurate simulation models to improve systems planning and decision-making, followed by emulation trials that test the control system before installation, Emulate3D’s software enables customers to virtually test machine and system designs before incurring manufacturing and automation costs and committing to a final design. Rockwell Automation will add Emulate3D’s technology to its digital design portfolio to deliver solutions to automotive, logistics, material handling, and other industrial applications. The software will be sold as Emulate3D by Rockwell Automation, as part of Rockwell Automation’s FactoryTalk DesignSuite.

In 2017 Rockwell Automation acquired Odos Imaging, a Scottish technology company that provides three-dimensional, time-of-flight sensing systems for industrial imaging applications. The Sensia joint venture will be the first fully integrated provider of measurement solutions, domain expertise, and automation to the oil and gas industry. It will offer scalable, cloud and edge-enabled process automation, including information and process safety solutions. From intelligent systems to fully engineered life-cycle management automation solutions, the joint venture will help customers drive efficiency gains through measurement and data-driven intelligent automation.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sensia will operate as an independent entity, with Rockwell Automation owning 53% and Schlumberger owning 47% of the joint venture. Sensia is expected to generate annual revenue of $400 million and will employ approximately 1,000 team members serving customers in more than 80 countries, with global headquarters in Houston, Texas.

Rockwell Automation is using Microsoft Azure IoT services to extend its business and provide managed monitoring and support for its products in the field. The company has developed cloud-based solutions, using the software, sensors, and devices to predict equipment failures along the supply chain, track its performance in real-time, and help refine designs and processes to prevent those failures in the future.
