Aptean was formed by the merger of CDC Software and Consona Corporation. Prior to that, Vista Equity Partners Fund IV completed in April 2012 a buyout of CDC Software, which filed for bankruptcy protection. Both CDC and Consona acquired and developed a number of ERP brands such as Ross Systems and Intuitive through the years.

Aptean Recent Developments

In September 2021, Aptean launched a new integrated offering joining its Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and Aptean Industrial Manufacturing ERP Made2Manage Edition. The integration of the CRM and ERP will enable customers to centralize data and decrease the likelihood of errors that can result from switching between platforms. Aptean’s integrated CRM and Industrial Manufacturing ERP helps manufacturers improve their customer service by creating an easier way to access customer data as well as orders, timelines, complaints and follow-ups.

In February 2021, Aptean released its Aptean Industrial Manufacturing ERP cloud offering that provides discrete manufacturers with full functionality in a secure, flexible, scalable and cost-effective solution. Aptean Industrial Manufacturing ERP offers manufacturers in job shops or dynamic “to-order” and mixed-mode environments a flexible, scalable software solution that retains a high level of security, provides data backups and alleviates the additional costs of equipment and maintenance.

In July 2020, Aptean launched two new products, Aptean Pay and Aptean eCommerce, that offer businesses modern, innovative ways to quickly transform their operations or physical stores into ecommerce engines. Aptean’s new cloud-native solutions address the industry need for integrated tools that help automate and streamline payment processes and expedite order fulfillment via scalable online storefronts.

In February 2019 Aptean received a joint investment from TA Associates and Vista Equity Partners. TA and Vista are equal partners, each investing new equity to acquire Aptean from the separate Vista fund that initially invested in the company in 2012.

In 2018 Aptean divested its Public Sector and Vertical Business Applications (including CRM products) businesses. The portfolio now includes enterprise resource planning (ERP), manufacturing execution systems (MES), enterprise asset management (EAM), warehouse management systems (WMS), transport management software (TMS) and compliance solutions.

In April 2019 Aptean announced the availability of Factory MES 9.2 which introduces new collaboration features and more intuitive reporting functionality. This ensures that all valuable interactions are captured, tracked and consumed in real-time improving communication and productivity and speeding up issue resolution within the plant.

In October 2018 Aptean has released a new version of one of its flagship products, Aptean Ross ERP, designed to significantly improve the user experience and offer the full functionality of the product in the cloud. In November 2021, Aptean announced the acquisition of Objective Holding (Objective) from funds managed by Alpina Capital Partners LLP (Alpina, Alpina Partners) and private shareholders. Objective is a leading Belgium-based manufacturing execution (MES) and warehouse management (WMS) provider for clients in process and discrete manufacturing. Headquartered in Wichelen, Belgium, Objective offers innovative manufacturing execution systems (MES), warehouse management systems (WMS) and workforce management (WFM) solutions that enable customers to seamlessly manage and optimize their production and supply chain operations. Objective has a strong presence across the Benelux region and serves industries that align closely with Aptean’s areas of leadership, including food and beverage, heavy equipment, plastics and furniture manufacturing. Objective’s comprehensive product suite includes critical functionalities of MES, WMS and WFM systems, including production management, material management, quality management, value-added logistics, kitting and re-packing.

In October 2021, Aptean finalized the acquisition of Ramsauer & Stürmer, a provider of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software in Austria. As part of Aptean, Ramsauer & Stürmer will maintain its regional focus, while also benefitting from the company’s global scale and resources, including its deep technology expertise. With this transaction, Aptean has grown its geographic footprint in Austria, an important market in the Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH) region where demand for digital business solutions has increased over the last 18 months.

In August 2021, Aptean announced the acquisition of Exenta, creator of enterprise resource planning (ERP), product lifecycle management (PLM), Innovation Lifecycle Management and Shop Floor Control (SFC) solutions to support the fast fashion, apparel and soft goods industries. Exenta’s industry-specific software platforms provide customers flexibility to quickly adapt to the highly dynamic demands of the fashion and apparel markets. Exenta combines scalable, intuitive technology with deep domain expertise in design, sourcing, production and distribution. Exenta’s ERP, PLM and SFC solutions help customers streamline operations, increase revenue and enhance efficiency, while their EDI solution enables seamless communication with vendors and consumers. Exenta’s software can be hosted in the cloud or installed on-premise.

Also In August 2021, Aptean announced the acquisition of V-Technologies, LLC, a provider of integrated shipping software solutions. Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Connecticut, V-Technologies supports more than 4,000 customers in automating their shipping and front office functions. Through its two flagship shipping software products, StarShip and ShipGear, V-Technologies provides the link between Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), ecommerce platforms and logistics companies resulting in faster, more efficient shipment processing and fulfilment. The solution allows users to research availability and pricing across major shipping and parcel carriers, such as FedEx, UPS and DHL, as well as to schedule, place and track shipments. V-Technologies also supports the transportation of less-than-truckload (LTL) palletized goods and large freight items.

In May 2019, Aptean has acquired two companies OPTIWARE in May and Sanderson Group. OPTIWARE is a provider of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) solutions and this acquisition extend Aptean's capabilities in European marketplaces, a key growth area for the company. Sanderson Group has a diverse portfolio of software solutions for multi-channel retail, manufacturing, wholesale distribution, and logistics businesses.

In March 2018 Aptean acquired IndustryBuilt, a provider of industry-specific ERP solutions. IndustryBuilt's core product is JustFood, an ERP solution purpose-built for food manufacturers and distributors. The acqusition of industry specific ERPs continued in 2019, with the acqusition of Netherlands-based Schouw Informatisering, a full-service ERP provider for food companies. Additionally, Aptean acquired an UK-based Linkfresh, a provider of enterprise resource planning (“ERP”) solutions for the food industry.

Before that, Aptean acquired irms|360 Enterprise Solutions for cloud supply chain apps and Apprise for ERP for importers and distributors of consumer goods in 2017. Those two acquisitions followed the purchase of GQ Life Sciences for life science patent search solutions and Government & Enterprise Management Solutions (GEMS) Division from StarDyne Technologies in 2016.
