athenahealth Strengths

A number of recent acquisitions, coupled with the winning of major healthcare providers like New York Presbyterian and Trinity Health, have helped solidify athenahealth's position as a leading EHR applications provider by leveraging the ubiquity of the Cloud.

Since it was founded in 1997, athenahealth has become the powerhouse in Cloud healthcare through a combination of three distinct but interconnected components—cloud-based software, networked knowledge, and back-office services.

Athenahealth enables healthcare providers to achieve and sustain financial health while keeping their focus on quality patient care. Its cloud-based services are currently packaged as four integrated offerings: athenaCollector for revenue cycle management, athenaClinicals for electronic health record, athenaCommunicator for patient engagement, and athenaCoordinator for patience access and care coordination services.

Its single-instance platform allows every client to benefit from the collective knowledge of all other clients through its patented billing Rules Engine and clinical Quality Management Engine – once a new rule or improvement to athenaNet is learned through performance monitoring, athenahealth is able to disseminate it across the network to benefit all clients. The shared knowledge also allows athenahealth clients to monitor and benchmark their performances against peer practices across the network.

Athenhealths’s comprehensive population health service helps clients achieve quality goals while controlling the cost of care. With a proven track record of helping some of the nation’s most successful ACOs, athenahealth guarentees clients will receive an ACO shared savings payments. If they don’t, they don’t pay for the service.

Its comprehensive business intelligence application, Anodyne Analytics, together with the services of its newest subsidiary, Healthcare Data Services LLC, further support its clients’ goal of financial health by equipping them with data analysis and visualization tools and actionable insight into their performance and the health of their patients.

These combined performance insights and management services are going to become increasingly instrumental in helping practices thrive through the industry shift away from fee-for-service towards value-based reimbursement, as providers will need a vendor that keeps them on top of change and makes it easier to demonstrate high quality and cost containment in order to get paid.
