Baidu's flagship Baidu App has reached 558 million monthly active users (MAU) in March 2021, with more than 75% of users logging onto the platform every day.

Baidu Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions

In November 2021, Baidu acquired JOYY's domestic video-based entertainment live streaming business in China ("YY Live"), which includes YY mobile app, YY.com website and PC YY, among others, for an aggregate purchase price of approximately US$3.6 billion in cash.

YY Live stands to benefit from Baidu's large traffic and thriving mobile ecosystem, while Baidu will receive immediate operational experience and knowhow for large-scale video-based social media development, as well as an enviable creator network that will further strengthen Baidu's massive content provider network. Together with the team from YY Live, Baidu hopes to explore the next-generation livestreaming and video-based social media that can expand beyond entertainment into the diversified verticals on Baidu platform.

Baidu Risks and Challenges

DO Global (formerly DU Group), were surreptitiously running revenue enhancing background programs on user devices since at least 2016. These programs, part of six known applications developed by the company, and downloaded hundreds of millions times, were clicking on internet ads, even when the devices were idle, and unbeknownst to end users, in order to increase revenue generated by "clicks". Google banned DO Global and more than 100 of its apps from the Google Play Store on April 26, 2019.

Baidu Ecosystem, Partners, Resellers and SI

Baidu has been providing driving solutions to auto companies via its open-sourced Apollo platform since 2017. While the platform has accumulated hundreds of enterprise users, Baidu has fostered closer ties with certain partners. For example, it set up a joint venture with China’s Geely to form electric vehicle maker Jidu Auto, into which the partners would plow $7.7 billion.
