CDK Global Risks and Challenges
In March 2021, Francisco Partners completed its acquisition of CDK Global International, a former division of CDK Global for $1.45 billion. CDK Global International has now been established as an independent business named Keyloop. The acquisition by FP, a global investment firm that specializes in technology businesses, represents its conviction that Keyloop is uniquely positioned to help those involved in the automotive sector, both dealers and OEMs, respond to major changes over the coming decade as they transform the automotive retail experience.
Recent changes in top leadership roles, such as CFO, COO, CIO, and CISO, within CDK Global, might lead to changes in the company's strategy and goals.
CDK's performance is expected to be uneven at best because of dealer closures and bankruptcies through much of 2020. That will be offset by choppy recovery efforts under way at some of its larger customers that are now more intent than ever to adopt digital car-buying experience for the general public still fearful of alternatives like public transportation.
Considering the growing popularity of electric vehicles especially from upstarts to highflyers like Tesla, CDK's long-term outlook is mixed as it relies heavily on dealer management systems, something that electric vehicle makers are aiming to do without because of their direct-to-consumer selling approach.
