LECTRA Recent Developments

In January 2020, Lectra announced the latest evolution of Versalis Offline, the new digital leather cutting solution developed for leather furniture manufacturers. Designed to maximize the efficiency of the entire production cycle, Versalis Offline enables manufacturers to optimize their cutting process while improving productivity, nesting efficiency and ergonomics for faster furniture manufacturing.

In October 2019, Lectra launched two new solutions for the mass production of fabric car seats and interiors: Vector Automotive iP6 and iP9. The latest additions to the already-extensive Vector Automotive range combine breakthrough cutting equipment innovation with an optimized software application and specially designed consumables to enable automotive suppliers to achieve zero-buffer cutting on a very wide variety of automotive materials.

Lectra’s R&D teams devoted three years to developing the technology required for zero-buffer cutting. Improvements in hardware components, an updated equipment pilot with a powerful new algorithm, and a specially designed blade will enable automotive suppliers to achieve hundreds of thousands of dollars in material savings annually as compared to other solutions available on the market.

Lectra developed the Vector Automotive iP series in direct response to the cost challenges faced by its automotive customers. Pressure from car manufacturers as well as rising manufacturing costs are driving automotive suppliers to constantly search for ways to cut costs. Material consumption is a particular area of concern, as this is the most significant expense in automotive car seat and interior manufacturing. With Vector Automotive iP6 and iP9, automotive suppliers will be able to achieve critical savings while minimizing the impact on their margins.

Constant, real-time control of the cutting equipment is integral to Vector Automotive iP6 and iP9’s ultraprecise cutting. Sensors on the cutting-head camera detect stress and instantly adapt cutting parameters. The new algorithm, an add-on to the equipment software pilot, manages common lines in real time for the greatest degree of accuracy possible while cutting parameters are continually adjusted to the blade’s dimensions.

In addition to substantially reducing material consumption, automotive customers will also benefit from lower consumable replacement costs and increased cutting time. Just as with materials, the new solutions enable an equivalent gain in paper and plastic films for each 1 mm reduction in buffer. Improvements in the bristle block, sharpening band and blade lifespans reduce maintenance time by half thereby drastically increasing machine availability.

Both solutions come with Vector Dashboard, a cloud-based application that allows users to monitor each equipment through daily key performance indicators.

LECTRA Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Activities

In July 2019, Lectra has completed the acquisition of the Belgium company Retviews. Founded in 2017, Retviews has developed an innovative technological offer that enables fashion brands to analyze real-time market data, in order to increase their sales and margins. More than 30 brands use Retviews in France and Belgium.

At the beginning of 2018, Lectra acquired Italian company Kubix Lab. Founded at the end of 2015, Kubix Lab has developed a cutting-edge technological offer called Link. This offer enables fashion brands to manage, from end-to-end, all product information deriving notably from multiple IT systems (ERP, PDM, PLM.), within one single application. Users can modify, enrich or add new data, while maintaining data synchronization with all IT systems. In just a few months, Link has convinced over ten high-end Italian brands of its value.

LECTRA Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions

In February 2017, Lectra launched its Lectra 4.0 strategy, which aims to position Lectra as an indispensable player in Industry 4.0 in its market sectors between now and 2030. Industry 4.0 presents an unprecedented opportunity for Lectra. It imposes a new organization of production facilities based on intercommunication between all participants and production tools, and digitalization of all processes in the value chain. Industry 4.0 is based on four key technologies that Lectra has mastered for years: cloud technology, big data, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things.

With over 11% of revenues invested in R&D in 2019 (and 90 million euros over the 2017-2019 period), Lectra is continuing its policy of innovation to further strengthen its technological leadership and its value proposition.

LECTRA Risks and Challenges

In its Q1 financial report, the Group had anticipated a sharp decrease in revenues and in income from operations in Q2, due to the COVID-19 epidemic and its consequences, particularly the expansion of confinement measures in many countries that led to the slowdown or closure of nearly all production plants operated by Lectra's customers.

Migration to the Cloud is a work in progress as the company changed the business model at the beginning of 2018 and decided to sell new software only in SaaS mode; to give customers the choice, for existing CAD and PLM software, between the current model (sale of perpetual licenses together with their associated maintenance contracts).
