SAS Institute Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions

SAS experienced double-digit revenue gains in AI software and solutions for IoT, risk management and fraud and security intelligence. Today, SAS customers are experiencing change at a pace like never before. If they weren’t already on the path to digital transformation before 2020, they were forced into it rapidly last year. In order to maximize on analytic investment, make data-driven decisions, and deliver competitive advantages, businesses need data and analytics – and they need to put them to work in new and different ways. In 2020, SAS helped customers thrive in this shifting landscape thanks in part to our innovations across our customer intelligence and data science solutions, our cloud-native SAS Viya software and strategic partnership with Microsoft. This year, SAS is continuing to refine these technologies and beyond to help customers continue to evolve and innovate.

SAS Institute Risks and Challenges

SAS remains heavily entrenched in on-premise analytics space. The key is whether it can migrate its customers soon enough before some of them are being lured away by Cloud startups with more affordable pricing and flexible deployment options. As of 2020, revenues have been flat or declined for five consecutive years at SAS, To keep up with inflation, 2020 revenues would have needed to have been $3.4 billion, but they were only $3 billion. Given the unprecedented challenges of the 2020 global economy, it is hard to know whether this downward trend will continue. SAS also has several new competitors in data management, storage, and analysis, so how it meets this competitive challenge will be crucial.

SAS Institute Ecosystem, Partners, Resellers and SI

The partnership is focused on the work of the University’s Rapidly Emerging Antiviral Drug Development Initiative (READDI) which is developing broad spectrum antiviral drugs to have on the shelf to prevent future pandemics. To advance their work, SAS research and development teams are applying advanced machine learning techniques to integrate multiple biological data sets from the deep lung environment of severely ill COVID-19 patients.
