In July 2021, SolarWinds completed the spin-off of its MSP Business N-able, into a standalone, separately-traded public company. Following the separation N-able will provide cloud-based software solutions for managed service providers (“MSPs”), enabling them to support digital transformation and growth within small and medium-sized enterprises. SolarWinds will retain its Core IT Management business focused primarily on providing IT infrastructure management software to corporate IT organizations.
In October 2019 SolarWinds launched two new employee engagement tools as part of the SolarWinds Service Desk. SolarWinds Service Desk Chat, allows employees to directly engage with internal service providers to quickly get the resolutions or resources they need to stay productive. SolarWinds Service Desk has also released an upgraded mobile app experience for service desk agents to provide support on the go.
SolarWinds Service Desk Chat provides employees with instant access to internal service providers supporting the systems and resources they need to stay productive directly from the employee service portal. Built directly into the service desk, Chat aligns with existing service management processes, ensuring all communication is logged into the service records. By facilitating better real-time communications between employees and internal service providers, both parties have the active attention of each other, allowing issues to be resolved more rapidly and efficiently.
The SolarWinds Service Desk mobile app enables internal service providers to continually support the needs of employees from anywhere, from any device. The intuitive mobile interface brings core service management functionality directly to service providers mobile devices, allowing them to create new tickets and service requests, as well as resolve tasks and make approvals. Service providers from IT and other departments can evaluate, update, and escalate incidents with the mobile app, while also utilizing the full commenting capabilities between the requesters and other service providers.
In August 2019 SolarWinds launched SolarWinds Identity Monitor. The easy-to-use solution is designed to help IT and security professionals strengthen their security posture and combat instances of account fraud, loss of revenue, brand damage, and spam by automating account takeover (ATO) prevention. This launch further underscores SolarWinds commitment to making security solutions accessible for every organization that needs them, helping to fill a gap not met by many enterprise software vendors. Identity Monitor is enabled through a partnership with SpyCloud, experts in recovering data breach information.
SolarWinds Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Activities
In January 2022, SolarWinds revealed its acquisition of Monalytic, a federal services provider, aimed at bolstering support for SolarWinds' federal clientele. By combining SolarWinds' user-friendly IT management products with Monalytic's experienced professionals, the acquisition promises to enhance optimization and security in dynamic IT environments, catering particularly to the stringent requirements of secure government settings.
SolarWinds acquired Samanage, a cloud-based IT service desk software solution, for $329 million. Samanage had annual revenue in the tens of millions of dollars. It employed about 200 people, half in Israel and half in the US and Europe. SolarWinds was tucked into SolarWinds IT Operations Management portfolio. In some ways, Samanage competes with ServiceNow, FreshDesk, ZenDesk, Zoho Desk, Atlassian's Jira Service Desk, and SpiceWorks, among others.
