In July 2021, IBM Digital Health Pass is integrated into Traveler ID for Safe Travel, Amadeus’ digital health verification solution. This enables airlines to integrate the use of COVID-19 digital health credentials into their existing reservation and booking system, allowing airline passengers the option to scan or upload documentation to show their health credentials.
Amadeus is empowering startups, independent developers and emerging businesses to gain an edge by launching a new set of AI Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) as part of the Amadeus for Developers program. These APIs will allow developers to build solutions that can predict travel intent, traveler behavior, and flight delays, amongst others - without needing any prior background in AI or data.
This is the first time in the travel industry that AI capabilities are made available to startups and independent developers via open APIs. Amadeus is providing ready-to-implement predictive models based on valuable insights and functionalities fed by Amadeus’ vast sources of travel data.
These APIs enable travel innovators to create exciting AI-based apps with brand new features and disruptive business models that can transform the travel experience. The insights are offered under Amadeus’ Self-Service API catalog for partners, and any developer can start testing the APIs in less than three minutes.
Amadeus Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Activities
In February 2020, Amadeus acquired Sky Suite, the airline network planning software business of Optym, a leader in network optimization.
The two companies have been partners for more than three years, jointly delivering solutions to Southwest Airlines,easyJet, and LATAM Airlines.The Amadeus Sky Suite will be further integrated into the Amadeus Airline Platform,including software for network optimization and simulation, frequency and capacity planning, network planning and forecasting, and a flight scheduling development platform.
As a result of this transaction, 90 employees will be dedicated to the Amadeus Sky Suite. The group is led by Renzo Vaccari, who held a similar role at Optym, and is focused on a smooth transition.

Amadeus Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
Hoteliers face heightened customer expectations for sanitization and safety upon reopening in a COVID-19 world, placing increased pressure on select service properties to respond despite limited staff and budget. To support this segment of the hotel industry in its crisis recovery, Amadeus is launching a new, user-friendly cloud-based operations solution to help hoteliers manage sanitization, maintenance, inspections, and other daily tasks with efficiency.
HotSOS Select is a streamlined version of the HotSOS solution priced for the select service segment that enables hoteliers to maximize customer satisfaction through task automation and work prioritization. HotSOS Select also allows properties to set reminders to sanitize all high-touch areas, an increasingly important process for the “Generation Clean”, a new traveler segment identified by Amadeus that considers health and safety a top priority. To further support hoteliers in their recovery planning and service delivery, Amadeus has included two pre-installed checklists in HotSOS Select – a preventative maintenance checklist as well as a housekeeping disinfecting checklist endorsed by the International Executive Housekeeping Association (IEHA). These tools will help hoteliers proactively address problem areas before they reach the guest.
For added insight, in-solution real-time dashboards provide visibility into staff productivity to ensure speed and accuracy, and in order to address escalations quickly to lower overall operational costs and deliver a memorable guest experience.
Amadeus Risks and Challenges
In July 2020, Amadeus reporterd its first loss in a decade in the second quarter when airlines around the world were grounded due to the pandemic. Almost all participants in the airline and travel industry have been hurt and Amadeus was no exception. Its distribution business - mostly transaction-heavy airline and hotel bookings - posted negative revenues in the second quarter of 2020 as it issued more refunds to clients than any revenue it received from them. Its total revenues for the quarter tumbled 82%.
Amadeus' earnings are strongly tied to the number of bookings it handles, as the company charges a fee for every reservation made on its platform. It's not clear when or how the airline industry will recover as more Covid cases have been reported around the world through the third quarter of 2020.

During 2019, Amadeus partnered with KPMG to allow employees to book their travel and receive in parallel immigration, tax and regulatory assessments and assistance throughout their journeys.
