Amdocs is a provider of customer experience software solutions and services for the world's largest communications, entertainment and media service providers. Amdocs Service Design and Create, a new network functions virtualization/software-defined networking (NFV/SDN) solution that allows service providers to achieve service agility by enabling the design, testing and launching of new network services.

In January 2018, Amdocs was first in the industry to be introducing a 5G-ready online charging system. This new solution enables service providers to process traffic from multiple network slices through a common online charging system, in accordance with the 5G standards guidelines published by 3GPPTM in December 2017. Network slicing is a key capability in 5G networks, as it allows service providers to run multiple logical networks that meet the varying performance needs of different services, from eHealth and autonomous vehicles, which demand the lowest possible latency, to less-critical but bandwidth-demanding virtual and augmented reality applications.

In May 2021, Amdocs Expands Strategic Collaboration with Microsoft. With Amdocs and Microsoft, service providers will be able to transform with cloud-native solutions and cloud services and deploy 5G networks in the cloud with Azure for Operators, automated by the Amdocs NEO service and network automation suite and monetized by Amdocs Charging. This collaboration enables customers to fulfil our promise to the industry of delivering cloud at scale.

In February 2018, Amdocs launched its Autonomous Service Assurance solution to accelerate a service provider's evolution from the manual network-centric operations of today to the fully autonomous service-driven operations of the future. Autonomous Service Assurance delivers business value for current networks and services and prepares service providers for the software-defined and virtualized networks and services of tomorrow.

Amdocs Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Activities

In May 2021, Amdocs has acquired Sourced Group, a global technology consultancy specializing in large-scale cloud transformations for sophisticated, high-end enterprises in industries such as financial services, communications and others. The two companies are excited by the opportunity to strengthen Amdocs’ capabilities for taking the communications industry to the cloud and bring to Amdocs’ 350+ service provider customers Sourced’s decade-long experience of delivering cloud at scale. Amdocs acquired Sourced in mid-March for a net consideration of approximately $75 million in cash1. Additional consideration may be paid later based on the achievement of certain performance metrics. The impact of the acquisition on Amdocs’ non-GAAP diluted earnings per share2 is expected to be neutral in the full fiscal year 2021. The impact on GAAP diluted earnings per share will not be known until after Amdocs completes the purchase price allocation.

Amdocs Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions

In June 2021, Amdocs has launched Experience360, its low-/no-code experience technology foundation, enabling a service provider’s marketers and other business users to create new customer experiences and journeys with little or no IT support. Experience360 takes customer journeys to the next level by seamlessly allowing business users to meet the changing demands of their customers, without the burden of complex IT services and infrastructure.

In August 2019, Amdocs acquired TTS Wireless to further expand 5G capabilities. This acquisition enables the combination of TTS Wireless’ services with the Amdocs Open 5G portfolio. This expanded offering helps operators to accelerate and simplify deployment of 5G networks with network rollout solutions.

The next year, Amdocs acquired Openet, a provider of 5G charging, policy and cloud technologies. It brings Openet’s open and network-centric technologies to Amdocs’ 350+ service provider customers worldwide, helping them to succeed in the wave of 5G advancements around cloud, edge compute, IoT and new customer experiences.

In April 2018, Vubiquity became part of Amdocs and the provider of premium content services and media technology solutions has extended its long-standing relationship with Turner as the primary distributor of it's On Demand content. Vubiquity distributes TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, CNN and other Turner networks to 60M+ households across North America and Canada.

Amdocs Risks and Challenges

The biggest threat remains Ericsson, which has eclipsed the OSS/BSS positioning of Amdocs both in terms of revenues and growth prospects because of the breadth of Ericsson's product portfolio. Additionally, Amdocs needs to better articulate its key differentiators in the subscription management applications market that has attracted plenty of competitors and intensifying pricing pressures could present new challenges.

Losing AT&T as a customer can cost Amdocs more than 20% of their revenue. Adittionally, 65% od annual revenue comes from ten customers.
