Cision Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions

In July 2018, Cision acquired the technical assets of Berlin-based ShareIQ. The ShareIQ platform is based on patent-pending technology that discovers, analyzes and indexes original pieces of visual content, as well as shared and republished copies of specific images. With the addition of ShareIQ technology to the Cision Communications Cloud, Cision becomes the first earned media platform in the industry to monitor, analyze and attribute value to both text and visual content. In December 2017, Cision acquired PRIME Research, a leading global provider of media measurement and analysis services. By adding PRIME to its portfolio, Cision will expand its comprehensive data-driven offerings that help communications professionals identify influencers, craft meaningful campaigns, and attribute business value to those efforts. Also In the same month, Cision acquired CEDROM-SNi, a Montre al-based firm specializing in digital media monitoring solutions. The acquisition allows CEDROM customers to benefit immediately from Cision’s complementary product offerings, including the Cision Communications Cloud and the CNW news distribution network. The acquisition will also provide Cision’s existing global customer base with enhanced access to thousands of sources of media content from print, radio, television, web and social media, helping them better understand and quantify the impact of their communications and media coverage in both Canada and France.

Cision Risks and Challenges

The merger of Vocus and Cision has created a formidable competitor in Cloud-based marketing and social media engagement. And Cision, now the brand owner backed by private-equity firm GTCR, aims to become even more entrenched with its key constituents. In 2015 it acquired Gorkana Group, a UK-based media intelligence and data insights service provider. That raised the concern of UK antitrust agency fearing the vendor had too much control over media contacts database.
