Epic Systems Strengths

Epic specializes in healthcare applications for mid-sized and large medical groups, hospitals, academic centers, and integrated healthcare organizations. With 33 years of steady growth and successful implementations, Epic is considered the silent giant in electronic health record adoptions. Its 350 customers represent approximately 300,000 physicians and serve a patient footprint that could cover half of the U.S. patient population when fully rolled out.

Epic is employee-owned and it relies solely on internal development (i.e. no acquisitions), making it a rare commodity in the software industry. With more than 8,000 employees, Epic invests heavily in R&D. Epic has developed one of the largest integrated suites of healthcare applications and one of the few to integrate clinical, access and revenue applications across the hospital-to-clinic continuum of care.

Epic is at the forefront of patient-record interoperability - exchanging nearly 3.4 million documents, representing over 760,000 patient records monthly with Epic and non-Epic sites.

One of its largest EHR customers is Kaiser Permanente, the $48-bilion health system with 37 hospitals, 611 medical offices and nine million members.
