In May 2021, Hitachi launched Lumada Inspection Insights, an end-to-end portfolio of digital solutions for the inspection, monitoring and optimization of critical assets, according to a release. Lumada Inspection Insights, pioneered by Hitachi Energy and Hitachi Vantara, enables customers to automate asset inspection, support sustainability goals, improve physical security, and reduce risks and impacts related to storms or fires by using artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze photographs and video, including LiDAR, thermal and satellite imagery.
Hitachi Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Activities
In July 2020, Hitachi acquired ABB's power grids business, which has the top level market share and advanced technologies. This acquisition brought with it more than 15,000 customers in about 90 countries around the world. Hitachi Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
Hitachi's first area of focus will be to accelerate the global rollout of the Lumada business with the acquisition of GlobalLogic. GlobalLogic develops software for customers in fields such as healthcare, telecommunications, manufacturing and the automotive sector, leveraging the strength of some 27,000 specialists in 14 countries around the world. Moving forward, Hitachi and GlobalLogic will target the customer bases of both companies, starting with cross-selling services that leverage their respective strengths and then utilizing the software assets accumulated through the Lumada business.
Hitachi Risks and Challenges
Hitachi's' ability to integrate the business of GlobalLogic will be key to its long-term success. The combination of two independent businesses is complex, costly and time consuming, and Hitachi will be required to devote significant management attention and resources to integrating the business practices and operations of GlobalLogic into Lumada business.
