MSCI Strengths
MSCI specializes in analytics tools for investors as well as credit risk applications for corporates and financial clients. Its risk management offerings include BarraOne and RiskMetrics CreditManager, the latter of which was picked up as part of its acquisition of RiskMetrics in 2010. CreditManager allows users to calculate economic capital, facilitate risk-based pricing, credit scores and measure risk concentrations. Prior to the RiskMetrics acquisition, MSCI's major risk management application was BarraOne for multi-asset class investment risk management and performance attribution. Because of the breadth of its analytics and investment decision-support tools(typically sold with data services), MSCI has managed to attract a full spectrum of clients from large pension plans to boutique hedge funds.
