Rootstock Risks and Challenges
Salesforce's desire to expand in the manufacturing vertical, or ERP market for that matter, has been a work in progress. The combination of Rootstock and Kenandy appears to heighten Salesforce's desire to make it work through economy of scale. However it has never been easy partnering with Salesforce and its ever-changing priorities – now pivoting to its newly acquired platform products like Mulesoft and Tableau.
Rootstock's expansion into white space markets like cannabis manufacturing is a logical step given the greater propensity of these companies to invest heavily in automation to accelerate its time to market. The risk is that its also a moving target because of inconsistent rules and regulations regarding the legal status of cannabis products across state lines and even at the federal level.
