In October 2019, Teradata presented its new offerings to help companies use Vantage to simplify their analytic ecosystems and move forward from analytics to answers, wherever they are on their cloud journey. With these announcements, Teradata Vantage now unifies analytics, data lakes and data warehouses, all in the cloud.
Teradata expanded customer choice in Hybrid Cloud Solutions with the availability of Teradata Database on Azure providing customers more choice of cloud options for Teradata software. By combining Teradata’s industry-leading data warehouse software with the agility and elasticity of Azure public cloud services, customers can focus on driving business value rather than installing and maintaining physical infrastructure.
According to Teradata’s recent Data Warehouse Survey to its customers, more than 90 percent of them will employ a hybrid environment by 2020 consisting of a mix of on-premises and cloud resources. The same survey indicated that 85 percent of Teradata customers want to consume at least some of their analytics “as a service.”

Teradata has decided to make a shift in the executive suite. Oliver Ratzesberger, who took charge in January, stepped down, with his predecessor, board member Victor Lund, once again taking the reins on an interim basis. Overall revenue dropped 11% year over year. While subscriptions grew 11%, that didn't make up for the 78% drop in perpetual license revenue. Furthermore, consulting turned in a disappointing quarter, dropping 26% compared to the previous year.
Despite its push into Cloud applications, Teradata remains heavily entrenched in the hardware market and any talk of steering its software customers to its own captive hardware platform could backfire.
