WebPT Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
In August 2019 Private equity firm Warburg Pincus has signed an agreement to buy a majority interest in the EHR developer WebPT, acquiring it from Battery Ventures. The investment will help cloud-based electronic health record and practice management tools for physical therapists expand and innovate its product offerings, as rehab expands its place in the wider continuum of care. The investment will enable WebPT to boost its product offerings for outpatient physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists. The software-as-a-service vendor is deployed at some 15,000 clinics across the U.S. The investment in WebPT comes as the $35-billion rehab therapy market is projected to expand, influenced by aging and active U.S. population and demand for treatment pathways that reduce opioid exposure.
WebPT has acquired StriveHub, a Boston, MA-based patient relationship management (PRM) platform specifically designed for rehab therapy providers. For WebPT, the acquisition of StriveHub will enable PTs to deepen relationships with patients and improve their practices' bottom line Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Developed by two physical therapists, StriveHub enables providers to develop automated email campaigns, collect and act upon their Net Promoter Score (NPS), proactively seek online reviews, offer a free online portal to patients, and create a custom treatment and interactive-home exercise programs. Therapists can even prescribe exercise programs for patients in eight different languages. Earlier, WebPT secured a new round of investment from Battery Ventures, opening a new chapter for the EHR applications vendor for physical therapy professionals. That followed the acquisition of Health Data Solutions for its billing software.
WebPT Risks and Challenges
WebPT needs to defend its physical therapy turf vigorously by moving into adjacent areas such as home care as well as customer relationship management before horizontal EHR vendors start encroaching on its space.
