Skyward Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
In February 2020, Skyward founder Jim King announced the appointment of a new chairman of the board. In an email to employees on February 20, 2020, Jim King shared that the company’s board of directors had unanimously approved the selection of his son Jerry to succeed him as Skyward’s next chairman of the board. “It has been a privilege for me to serve as Skyward’s chairman of the board for the past 12 years,” said Jim King. “The time has come to pass the torch to the next generation and take some time to enjoy life. I’m confident that Jerry and the rest of the board and executive team will lead the company into the next phase of growth and success,” added King.
In August 2019, Skyward launched a new SIS and ERP self-assessment, DistrictCheck. The new tool, which was developed in partnership with GreyEd Solutions, conducts an inventory of existing administrative software and processes by gathering feedback from technology users in the district and presenting their responses in a data-driven evaluation.
In July 2019, Skyward is experiencing steady growth throughout Pennsylvania thanks to its new Qmlativ Education Management System platform. The company partnered with its first Pennsylvania district, in 2004, and now has 112 districts throughout the state using its software.
In November 2018, Skyward has released The Code Twins, a children’s book introducing coding concepts to young readers of all backgrounds.
In January 2017, Skyward introduced its Qmlativ Municipality Management Suite, the next evolution of the company’s ERP technology. The SQL-based platform features a revolutionary user experience, preemptive support measures, and a focus on the growth and development of every user. Skyward launched a Student Reward System that uses motivational methods to connect positive, real-life behaviors with rewards provided through its online software. The Student Reward System is a free integrated feature of the Skyward Student Management Suite, the first student information system on the market with this functionality. Skyward releases major software updates twice a year.
Skyward Risks and Challenges
Skyward’s current dispute with its home state of Wisconsin over the award of a $15 million contract to Infinite Campus, an out-of-state competitor, could turn into a contentious legal battle. Already Skyward has filed a protest with the state, insisting that its bid was lower than that from Infinite Campus, which is based in Blaine, MN. Skyward has been providing school administrative applications to half of the schools in Wisconsin and the loss of the contract could sharply curtail its presence in its home state.
