Advanced has grown through acquisitions to become an ERP application vendor with a special emphasis on the healthcare and professional services verticals. Its HCM and payroll offerings are sold alongside with its ERP applications. The Business Solutions division, formerly accounting software developer COA, or CedarOpenAccounts, provides accounting and ERP applications to the midmarket. Advanced 365 provides hosting and managed services support to the other two divisions.
Advanced Recent Developments
In October 2019, Advanced launched Cloud HR Software, a people management tool that will increase productivity in the HR department as well as empower employees to manage their own HR requests and activity with self-service processes and chatbots for enquiries. The new tool addresses a changing workforce which now includes Generation Z – digital natives who expect innovative technology to be pushed to them.
In March 2019, Advanced unveiled its new Cloud-based platform – MyWorkplace – a unified Cloud ecosystem designed to help customers accelerate their digital transformation plans. It is a significant step forward towards delivering interoperability between systems, including an open API platform for partners, and enhanced user experience benefits such as single sign-on.
In August 2018, Channel reseller Perrywell has joined the Advanced partner program TruePartner. Perrywell's appointment to the TruePartner program will help organizations to accelerate their transition to the Cloud safe in the knowledge they have a collaborative and supportive provider to deliver the solution.
Advanced Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Activities
In October 2021, Calculus portfolio company, CloudTrade, has been acquired by Advanced, a provider of business software, delivering a four-times return to Calculus investors in just over three years. The CloudTrade platform, which automatically processes and interprets electronic documents, is primarily used to automate invoice handling for large companies, which saves time, improves accuracy and reduces cost.
In May 2021, bksb has been acquired by Advanced, the software that covers everything from enrolment to classroom monitoring and learner analysis. By joining forces with Advanced, we can accelerate our investment and growth whilst broadening the solutions we can offer to you, helping you to innovate and achieve your goals.Advanced has also recently acquired Smart Apprentices, the next generation in ePortfolio and end point assessment technologies. The merger of bksb, Smart Apprentices and Pro Suite will harness the power of a wide range of learning provider software. In October 2020, Advanced acquired Clear Review, a global performance management and employee engagement software company. This is Advanced’s third acquisition of 2020 and extends its Human Capital Management capability centered around Cloud HR which now supports the entire employee lifecycle from recruitment to retirement.
In October 2020, Advanced acquired Mitrefinch, a global provider of workforce management solutions. It is Advanced’s second acquisition of 2020 following the acquisition of Tikit.
In March 2020, Advanced acquired Tikit, a global legal, accounting and professional services software business, from BT Group plc (BT). This is the company’s fifth acquisition in twelve months – and it reinforces Advanced’s ambition to become the number one provider of business software solutions in the UK whilst simultaneously extending its global footprint. Tikit broadens the market opportunity for Advanced solutions to include the top 100 to 200 UK law firms, being complementary to Advanced’s existing presence within small to medium sized firms. It also expands Advanced’s operations in North America, Australia and EMEA.
In December 2019, Advanced acquired Dublin-based CareWorks, a provider of Cloud based case management software for health and social care organisations, used by over 50,000 care professionals and clinicians and more than three million citizens. The acquisition will boost Advanced’s drive to deliver integrated health and care solutions and support the goals set out in the NHS Long Term Plan to build integrated care systems by 2021.
In November 2019, Advanced was acquired by Vista Equity Partners, a private equity firm that focuses on investing in software and technology-enabled businesses.
In April 2019, Advanced acquired US-based legacy modernisation leader Modern Systems. The acquisition of Modern Systems strengthens Advanced’s goal to become the number one software and services supplier in the UK, whilst expanding its presence in Europe and North America, where Modern Systems has a significant presence and customer base. Modern Systems brings more than 30 years of experience to Advanced, having completed 200-plus modernisation projects, with 1.5 billion lines of code processed through its legacy application source code, data and platform transformation solutions.

Advanced Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
In June 2019, Advanced made a partnership with FISCAL Technologies. This partnership will enable Advanced’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Financial Management solution customers to strengthen their Purchase-to-Pay (P2P) fraud and risk protection with FISCAL’s proven solution.
In November 2019, Rubixx has strengthened its commitment to Advanced by moving onto the new Advanced TruePartner program. The partnership recognises Rubixx’s track record in the areas of technology solutions and support for small and medium sized enterprises (SME), and underpins its commitment to helping SMEs achieve successful digital transformation.
Rubixx provides annual support and independent consultancy for OpenAccounts and eBIS organisations ranging from 500 to 33,000 customers. They specialise in channel shifting organisations to digital self-service with their supplier, contractor and customer portals. They also provide data warehousing and business intelligence, which fully integrates into OpenAccounts and selected business systems, giving organisations a 360-degree view of their business.
In March 2019, Genesis Business Systems joined the Advanced partner program – TruePartner. The appointment underpins Genesis’ strength in the areas of Cloud technology and demonstrates its commitment to helping SMEs accelerate their transformation to the Cloud. Genesis is renowned for its expertise in the supply, implementation and support of ERP systems.
Advanced has made a series of acquisitions to shore up its services and vertical offerings. In July 2018, Advanced has acquired Docman, electronic document management, workflow and information sharing platform provider to primary and secondary care services. The acquisition further accelerated Advanced's Cloud-first strategy and supports its ambitions to help the NHS in transforming health and care through technology in line with the NHS 5 Year Forward View and NHS Digital Policy.
Advanced Risks and Challenges
The difficult task of integrating its acquired assets will probably consume a lot of energy for Advanced, but the self-proclaimed consolidator has not shown any sign of backing down from its hyper-growth strategy.
Advanced has been taken private by Vista Equity Partners could give it some room to better integrate assets from multiple acquisitions while formulating a more coherent Cloud strategy.
Most of its recent acquisitions appeared to revolve around vertical applications for healthcare and the public sector that would do little to jumpstart its Cloud applications revenues. Currently, its Cloud applications revenues now represent a minor part of its recurring revenue stream.
