IFS Strengths, Domain Expertise, and Key Differentiators
IFS Applications 10 was announced in 2018 and contain a new user interface – IFS Aurena - allowing the user to experience seamless and intuitive interaction with the product. It delivers stunning visuals and new interaction patterns empower users to be more productive however they prefer to access IFS Applications 10. The release also contained innovative new features—including AI chatbot and enhanced service-centric capabilities—plus hundreds of functional improvements across all solution areas. IFS’s service offering remains strong after recent year’s acquisitions. IFS Field Service Management 6 will be released early 2019 as the most complete, connected, cloud-enabled FSM service in the market. IFS’s ability to deliver the most comprehensive suite of FSM technology has been verified by third party analysts. IFS remains committed to customer choice: IFS Applications 10 available in the cloud or on-premise. IFS Applications uses the Oracle Database 12c database for its database tier, a Java-based middle tier that supports Oracle WebLogic, and a Windows-based client application. To give customers and partners more deployment flexibility, IFS made its software available from Microsoft Azure. With a cloud deployment option, IFS relieves customers of infrastructure worries so they can focus more on their business. The decision for Microsoft Azure became even more compelling when, in June 2013, Microsoft and Oracle announced a partnership to help customers and software service providers develop and run Oracle software in Microsoft Azure. Cloud is a heavy investment area for IFS, growing over 500% YoY, and is the responsibility for a new unit focusing solely on IFS’s cloud delivery.
IFS Recent Developments
In early 2019 IFS, and Matsei Technologies and Consulting, a key South African IFS business partner, have collaborated to create a digital aquaponics farming solution that will help feed the nation, drive job creation and support the rise of innovative small businesses. IFS and its partner Matsei demonstrated, using a live model of the working farm at its Johannesburg offices, how the solution leverages next-generation technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Enterprise Operational Intelligence (EOI), and advanced analytics to automate and monitor fish aquaponic operations in real-time. IFS and Matsei are offering this solution as a platform to avail nutritional high protein foods to communities while enabling SMME’s (small, medium and micro-enterprises) to fast-track their entrance into the market and create sustainable employment. In May 2018, IFS, launched IFS Applications 10, the new version of its enterprise applications suite. Built to help customers capitalize on disruptive industry trends such as automation, connected devices (IoT), and servitization, the new version helps companies connect their business to a digital backbone. Drawing on artificial intelligence (AI) technology, IFS Applications 10 features the IFS Aurena Bot that empowers users to interact with the system via voice or textual input in an intuitive and efficient way. IFS Applications 10 is available as a managed service in the cloud, as Software as a Service (SaaS) and on-premise.

IFS Market Opportunities, M&A and Geo Expansions
In June 2019 IFS and Acumatica have partnered together to create ERP powerhouse under EQT ownership. This transaction is actually one that involves IFS’ private equity owner: EQT. EQT Partners acquired IFS AB in 2016 and has now acquired Acumatica via the same funding pool. The end result will be that the two firms will retain much of their autonomy; however, synergies from go-to-market activities, R&D efforts, etc. will be maximized between the two companies (more on this below). As such, this is not an acquisition by IFS, per se, but rather a tight affiliation between the two companies. Through the many acquisitions in the service segment, IFS has expanded its footprint in field service management software to include the full range of company sizes (through the WorkWave acquisition that added smaller company reach to the portfolio) as well as state-of-the-art functionality like the omni contact center (through the MPL acquisition). IFS is on an aggressive growth plan and has recently restructured the business to work even more global for best practice sharing across regions. With the acquisition of Metrix, IFS will expand in areas such as service contact center, service scheduling, contract management, warranty management, and service project management. By bringing together the IFS, Metrix, and IFS 360 Scheduling products, IFS aims offer a suite of service management applications for asset-intensive and customer-centric service providers. By acquiring MainIoT Software Oy, a provider of software solutions for Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Enterprise Service Management (ESM) as well as related master data management solutions to companies operating in the energy, process, manufacturing and service industries. Now as part of IFS, MainIoT’s customer base of more than 200 companies, including well-known companies like SSAB, Caverion, Neste, Gasum, Empower and Maintpartners will benefit from access to IFS’s proven industry-focused solutions.
IFS Risks and Challenges
EQT has acquired IFS and made the company private. With a new CEO coming onboard in May 2018, the company has been restructured to functional globally rather than regionally fragmented. In the short term, this means processes internally are being realigned and new roles filled. The vendor is also making an extra effort to simplify implementation. IFS is seeking to reduce its reliance on consulting by making its products easier to configure and reduced need for customization. Also it is looking to revitalize its partner network by focusing on larger SI:s, which means shifting more of the business into the hands of the partner segment.
IFS Ecosystem, Partners, Resellers and SI
IFS maintains a hybrid model of direct and indirect sales worldwide. The company is looking to revitalize its partner network by focusing on larger SI:s, which means shifting more of the business into the hands of the partner segment. Recently, IFS signed a strategic global partnership with Mahindra Satyam. The partnership covers joint sales and marketing activities related to the IFS Applications software suite. In 2018, IFS has made several partnerships with companies across the globe. Companies who went into a partnership agreement with the IFS are Aram, DXC Technology, Tieto, EVRY, WebQuarters, AnalytixInsight Inc. But its biggest news was its partnership with Infosys, a leader in consulting and technology services. The partnership covers joint sales activities toward targeted industries in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific, as well as development of skills in the IFS Applications software suite.
