Tyler Technologies Strengths, Domain Expertise, and Key Differentiators
Tyler Technologies is a provider of ERP and add-on solutions for the public sector with a special focus on local governments. Increasingly public sector organizations are leveraging Tyler for software-as-a-service applications to improve public access to government information. The vendor operates in two segments: Enterprise Software Solutions (ESS) and Appraisal and Tax Software Solutions and Services (ATSS).
ESS segment provides municipal, county, and state governments and schools with software systems for their back-office functions such as financial management and courts and justice processes.
ATSS provides systems and software that automate the appraisal and assessment of real and personal property, as well as property appraisal outsourcing services for local governments and taxing authorities.
In October 2019, Tyler began a strategic collaboration agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for cloud hosting services. This collaboration will enable Tyler public sector clients to deliver better experiences for citizens, and further enable governments to use data as a strategic asset in the design, management, and delivery of programs.
Tyler Technologies Recent Developments
In August 2020 Tyler Technologies has launched Assessment Connect, a solution that provides county, municipal, and state assessing offices with data access and analysis tools to help ensure fair and equitable property valuations throughout their jurisdictions. Assessment Connect transforms data into a strategic asset that is easily accessible via a secure web portal. The solution provides assessors with real-time data and insights into appraisals, appeals, property development efforts, and more.
In addition, Assessment Connect gives assessing offices access to a powerful peer-to-peer network, which offers a secure, private way for them to share data with other jurisdictions. Counties often have unique commercial or residential properties which can be difficult to value. And, county boundaries frequently intersect cities and school districts, making the analysis and aggregation of datasets challenging. With this solution, data can be collectively shared without the need for manual intervention. As a result, the data can make appraisals more reliable, reduce the possibility of appeals, and enhance decision making.
In 2019 Tyler Technologies has launched its Socrata based cloud application, Law Enforcement Analytics, a new datarich product for public safety command staff. Law Enforcement Analytics allows public safety staff to have a comprehensive view into crime statistics in their community. With the tool, they can identify types of crime that have increased or decreased in a given area, determine and visualize where crimes occurred, and pinpoint when crime types occur most frequently. This information allows law enforcement agencies to create specific plans or tactics in a certain region, for a specific crime type, or over a given timeframe.
In October 2019, Tyler Technologies acquired Courthouse Technologies, an industry-leading provider of jury management systems. CHT will complement and elevate Tyler's software offerings for domestic and international court clients. The acquisition of Courthouse Technologies strengthens Tyler's courts and justice portfolio to better serve its clients and their communities.
At the beginning of 2019, Tyler Technologies made two more acquisitions. The first one by acquiring MyCivic, a provider of citizen engagement applications. MyCivic will elevate Tyler's current citizen-facing applications by enabling clients to provide a single app for citizens to interact with their local government in multiple ways.
The second acquired company is MicroPact from Arlington Capital Partners. The decision to acquire MicroPact is in line with Tyler Technologies' long-term strategy to add products that complement its current offerings and will support its goals for long-term growth.
Tyler Technologies Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) Activities
In December 2018, Tyler Technologies acquired SceneDoc, a company that provides mobile-first, software-as-a-service (SaaS) field reporting for law enforcement agencies.
Earlier in October Tyler acquired MobileEyes, a company that develops software to improve public safety by supporting fire prevention and suppression, emergency response, and structural safety.
