In 2011, 18Town implemented Chartbeat for Analytics and BI on its website townhall.com. The small Indonesian consumer packaged goods company, operating with about 10 employees, instrumented Chartbeat as a site-level analytics layer to provide real-time visibility into web traffic and content engagement.
Chartbeat was configured to deliver real-time dashboards, active visitor counts, attention and time-on-page metrics, referral and entry page reporting, and content performance signals used by editorial teams. Configuration focused on client-side instrumentation and dashboard customization, with page-level tagging and site section segmentation to align metrics to content workflows.
The deployment was scoped to editorial, digital marketing, and web operations functions, enabling those teams to monitor live traffic and engagement signals on townhall.com. Implementation centered on embedding Chartbeat’s JavaScript beacon into page templates and mapping site sections to dashboard segments for operational monitoring.
Governance emphasized defining dashboard owners within the content team, establishing event tagging conventions, and scheduling checks during publishing windows to operationalize real-time signals. The rollout was single-site and lightweight, reflecting the company size, and structured to provide immediate, site-level audience behavior visibility for editorial decision making.
