Microsoft Legacy Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP Financial ERP Unikul Solutions 2019 2020
In 2019, Aga Khan Foundation implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as its ERP Financial platform, with Unikul Solutions driving the delivery across the foundation. The deployment targeted a global footprint of 34 units across 18 countries to centralize finance, procurement, grants and fixed asset operations and reduce siloed processes across units. Unikul implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central using a global rollout template approach, creating standardized templates for master data management and dimensions, core finance, purchase order processing, accounts payable, grants donations and receivables management, fixed assets management, bank reconciliation, budgeting and forecasting, consolidation and inter company transfers. Workflow implementation for approval and authorization of payments, purchase requisitions and purchase orders was configured alongside role based user groups and permissions. Customizations were scoped from a detailed requirements analysis to close functionality gaps while preserving the integrity of the Business Central configuration. A centralized production instance of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central was provisioned with each operational unit configured as a separate company within the tenant, enabling unit level access controls tied to user roles. Customized solution units developed by Unikul were implemented and integrated into the Dynamics 365 Business Central instance, and dashboards and financial reporting were added to surface analytical views. A web portal for staff, suppliers and partners and an incident management system were deployed to support ongoing user interactions and issue tracking under Unikul’s global support model. Governance and rollout followed a template driven onboarding process where units completed global templates that informed company setup and data configuration. Unikul executed extensive test coverage using an exhaustive set of test cases and a traceability matrix that tracked requirements through design, development and user acceptance testing. Continuous end user training accompanied the rollout to accelerate template completion and user adoption, and workflow controls were enforced to standardize approval processes across units. Outcome statements from the engagement indicate complete solution delivery from requirements through UAT and production rollout, centralized browser based access for all AKF users and an improved user experience through a single production instance. Management obtained a consolidated real time view of financial purchase and grant data, and unit specific access controls addressed data security concerns by limiting user access to the companies and data allowed by configured permissions. The global template approach produced uniform data organization and the workflow and incident management capabilities improved transactional control and user support during implementation.
