In 2009, Allstream implemented Salesforce Field Service (ex ClickSoftware) as its Field Service Management platform. The company developed and supported a Resource Management System composed of multiple in-house VB.Net applications that worked together with a vendor scheduling product called ClickSchedule through its API libraries to schedule and dispatch tasks to field technicians, Order Managers, Circuit Designer and other operational groups.
The implementation combined the Salesforce Field Service (ex ClickSoftware) scheduling and dispatch capabilities with bespoke VB.Net modules that handled user interfaces and local business logic. Core functional capabilities included automated scheduling and dispatch, task orchestration across groups, and role-specific routing for field technicians and order management workflows, exposed through a Windows client, a web client, a mobile PDA client and a BlackBerry client.
Integrations were centered on API-level communications to ClickSchedule, with the in-house VB.Net applications orchestrating calls to the scheduling engine and presenting task details across multiple client types. Operational scope covered field operations, order management and circuit design teams, and ongoing governance and support remained with Allstream staff who developed and maintained the Resource Management System and its scheduling integrations.
