In 2019, Amatola Water implemented LabWare LIMS in a Laboratory Management deployment at its water testing facilities in East London, Eastern Cape. The LabWare LIMS installation focused on chemistry laboratory operations supporting physical and chemical analysis workflows used by onsite chemistry technicians.
Core functional modules configured included sample lifecycle and chain of custody, instrument interfacing and automated raw data capture, calibration and maintenance scheduling, laboratory quality control and AQC monitoring, method validation recordkeeping, audit trails, and inventory and reagent management. LabWare LIMS was configured to support ISO/IEC 17025 compliance artifacts such as traceable calibration records and documented method validation.
The implementation incorporated direct data capture from analytical instrumentation referenced in operational notes, specifically Aquakem, ICP-OES, and TOC analyzer workflows, enabling electronic sample results and automated flagging for AQC performance. Operational coverage extended across laboratory technicians, quality assurance, and procurement workflows at Amatola Water facilities in East London, with the LabWare LIMS serving as the central Laboratory Management system for sample tracking and result signoff.
Governance changes included enforcing audit trail discipline, structured nonconformance investigation workflows, and formalized document and method control within the LIMS. Technicians use LabWare LIMS to maintain data integrity and efficient sample tracking, support internal and external audits, and coordinate reagent procurement and stock control as part of routine laboratory operations.
