In 2018, Anthem Bank & Trust implemented Exela Lockbox to support AR Automation for its accounts receivable and cash application workflows. The deployment was operationalized from the bank's Atlanta office and extended operational coverage for Northeast customer regions including Connecticut, Maine, and New Hampshire through daily cash balancing and regional mail processing tasks.
Exela Lockbox was configured to handle remittance capture and payment posting, including daily posting of online decisioning payments via US Bank, Transcentra Exela, and Deluxe lockboxes. Functional capabilities used include check scanning and image capture for live checks, automated and manual posting of unidentified MasterCard payments to appropriate product and member accounts, exception handling for unidentified items, and refund processing for GBD, Facets, and WGS or WDS payments.
The implementation integrated with multiple payment and downstream systems explicitly mentioned in operations, including US Bank lockbox channels, Transcentra Exela, Deluxe lockboxes, ISG, GBD, WGS, Facets, and the E&B billing and enrollment processes. Operational tasks included running queries and sending reports to E&B for monthly drafts, mailing and routing checks to ISG, GBD, WGS, Facets and US Bank lockboxes when received in-office, and coordination with processors and E&B for enrollment and billing issue resolution.
Governance and operational controls were aligned with Anthem security and compliance guidelines, with local process ownership executing daily cash balancing reports named Debbie A for CT ME and NH, escalation handling for customer inquiries, and on-the-job training of new staff by lead personnel. Exela Lockbox functions became a core element of Anthem Bank & Trust accounts receivable operations, providing structured remittance processing, reconciliation workflows, and exception management under Anthem governance.
