In 2015, Apache implemented XI DrillingSuite in a Drilling Operations Management deployment to support field planning in Western Canada. The deployment was executed by Apache Canada for well planning in the Montney region, focused on a six-well pad in the Ante Creek area of Alberta.
The implementation used XI Technologies' OffsetAnalyst and TourXchange modules as components of XI DrillingSuite. OffsetAnalyst was applied for offset well research and comparative planning, while TourXchange was used for tour sequencing and schedule-driven drill planning. Together these modules supported drill-planning workflows and operational decision making consistent with Drilling Operations Management functionality.
Operational scope encompassed Apache Canada drilling operations and drill-planning teams executing surface and subsurface planning for the Ante Creek pad. The XI DrillingSuite deployment informed AFE planning and operational sequencing across the pad, supporting coordination between planning and rig teams. Module usage and configuration details are documented in XI Technologies' case study.
According to XI Technologies' case study, the Montney pad finished 27 days ahead of the authorized for expenditure schedule and was roughly $3.4M under budget. The case study attributes these outcomes to the application of XI DrillingSuite modules OffsetAnalyst and TourXchange within Apache Canada’s drill-planning process.
