Hitachi Vantara Legacy Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite Asset Performance Management ERP Services and Operations n/a 2005 2006
In 2005, Austin Energy implemented Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite as an Asset Performance Management deployment. The initiative centered on improving substation asset visibility and aligning SCADA operations with field crew workflows to support transmission and distribution asset management. The Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite was configured to provide core Asset Performance Management capabilities including an asset registry, condition monitoring and work order orchestration to track lifecycle and maintenance activities. Configuration work emphasized ingesting SEL device telemetry via IP using script language so device readings and alarm data could be captured and correlated within FocalPoint. Integrations tied the APM implementation to SCADA components, notably Network Manager 2004, and aligned with the Common Information Model CIM upgrade to maintain consistent topology and asset definitions. The project included protocol conversions to DNP3 for device telemetry, creation and continuous update of one-line substation displays on Network Manager 2004, and operational links to network and server monitoring tools such as hobbit and WEBES. Governance and process standardization were established through Technical Notes that documented step-by-step procedures for protocol conversions to DNP3 and other operational tasks, creating repeatable guidance for engineers. These documents supported workflow changes for SCADA teams and field crews, formalizing scripted access methods to SEL devices and standardizing display and alarm handling processes across the organization. Explicit outcomes recorded in project notes include successful completion of many CIP projects that have been energized and numerous DNP conversions, along with delivery of a friendly interface that enabled SCADA operators and field personnel to access SEL device information and readings via IP. No implementation partner is listed for this deployment.
