In 2021, Axis Bank deployed IBM API Connect for API Management as part of Project NEO to productize APIs for retail and corporate banking in India. IBM API Connect was configured to provide API gateway routing, developer portal publishing, and API lifecycle and policy enforcement consistent with API Management platforms. Configuration emphasized API productization workflows, versioning, authentication, rate limiting, and publishing API products for consumption by corporate clients and partner applications. The deployment used platform features to manage an API catalog, subscription models and developer self service.
The deployment was led by IBM Cloud Integration Expert Labs together with Axis Bank IT teams, integrating IBM API Connect into Axis Bank operations across retail and corporate banking divisions in India. Operational coverage included transaction banking functions and corporate onboarding flows, the platform drove increased API traffic and improved customer engagement through programmatic access. The solution expanded Axis Bank transaction banking capabilities by exposing APIs for partner and corporate consumption.
Governance and rollout were organized under Project NEO with Axis Bank instituting API product governance and developer portal moderation to manage lifecycle and access controls. The implementation substantially reduced corporate onboarding turnaround time and increased API traffic and customer engagement as reported by Axis Bank and IBM. IBM API Connect is positioned as the central API Management platform enabling continued API productization and operational governance across Axis Bank.
