In 2020, Baglietto implemented Rhino as its primary 3D Modeling application to support engineering and design activities. The initial deployment targeted the shipyard engineering function and structural design workflows in La Spezia, Italy, aligning the application with naval architecture and class compliance tasks.
Rhino was configured to support advanced surface and hull geometry modeling, detailed component geometry for lifting devices and shell doors, and geometry preparation for downstream analysis. Functional capabilities emphasized precise NURBS-based surface modeling, geometry cleanup and export, and deliverables generation for documentation and class review.
The implementation emphasized interoperability with AutoCAD for 2D documentation, with Maxsurf for hydrostatic and hull fairing workflows, and with ANSYS for finite element analysis, enabling CAD-to-CAE handoff between design and analysis teams. Deployment was delivered as workstation installations across the structural engineering group, with file-based exchange workflows connecting design, structural, and class compliance processes.
