Google Legacy Google Cloud Universal Ledger Blockchain Platform Blockchain n/a 2025 2025
In 2025, Bank Of Bahrain & Kuwait B S C Representative Office participated in a Bahrain FinTech Bay coordinated pilot implementing Google Cloud Universal Ledger, a Blockchain Platform, to execute instant, near real time payments and settle high value Bahraini Dinar transactions between corporate clients in Bahrain. The pilot included participants NBB, BISB, BBK and Benefit, establishing a multi‑institution test network for 24/7 settlement and shared ledger visibility. The implementation of Google Cloud Universal Ledger focused on ledgering and settlement capabilities typical of a Blockchain Platform, including tokenized value representation, transaction finality, and automated reconciliation workflows to support high value Bahraini Dinar clearing. Payment orchestration and a settlement engine were configured to process instant, near real time corporate payments and to provide immutable traceability across counterparty records. Operational coverage extended to corporate banking and treasury functions for participating institutions in the Kingdom, with the network enabling direct settlement flows between corporate clients and participating banks and the Benefit payment operator. Governance for the pilot was coordinated through Bahrain FinTech Bay, and the program included plans to scale onboarding to additional financial institutions in the Kingdom, while preserving permissioned access and shared transaction visibility. The 2025 pilot demonstrated 24/7 settlement, lower costs and improved transparency as explicit outcomes, and the Bank Of Bahrain & Kuwait B S C Representative Office remains positioned to expand participation as onboarding to more institutions proceeds.
