In 2015, B&B Electric implemented Viewpoint Estimating, a Construction ERP application. The company used Viewpoint Estimating to complete take off from electrical drawings, solicit quotes from suppliers, prepare estimates using Viewpoint software and finalize bids for completeness and accuracy. Implementation emphasis was on centralizing the estimating function and producing consistent bid packages for electrical contracting work.
Configuration work focused on electronic takeoff workflows and the core estimating module, including cost item libraries, quantity rollups and assembly of estimate sections. Supplier quote capture and bid consolidation were implemented so that supplier responses could be mapped to estimate line items and assembled into unified bid documents, leveraging standard Construction ERP estimating patterns.
Operational scope covered the estimating and procurement workflows within the firm, with estimating staff performing takeoffs and quote management and project leads reviewing finalized submissions. Governance introduced review checkpoints and a bid completion checklist to ensure bids were finalized for completeness and accuracy and to align estimate outputs with procurement and bid submission processes.
