In 2013, BC Cancer implemented Oracle PeopleSoft ERP as its core ERP Financial system to centralize financial management and transactional reporting. Oracle PeopleSoft ERP serves as the Finance Department platform for transactional posting and financial reporting across the organization.
The CST Pharmacy Supply Chain module went live for BC Cancer Abbotsford and Surrey on October 15, 2021, and is being used for pharmacy purchasing, receiving, inventory management, and financial reporting functions. As each subsequent BC Cancer site goes live with CST, the CST Pharmacy Supply Chain module will provide cross-site visibility of pharmacy inventories which supports stock management in backorder situations.
A new interface between the CST Pharmacy Supply Chain module and PHSA PeopleSoft was implemented to automate many manual reporting processes and to deliver real-time transactional information to the Finance Department. That integration connects pharmacy transactional feeds into Oracle PeopleSoft ERP to enable timely financial posting and consolidated reporting across pharmacy and finance workflows.
The rollout was staged to allow pharmacy staff at Abbotsford and Surrey to adopt the operational software in advance of the CST Cerner clinical go-live, and governance emphasized coordination between pharmacy operations and Finance reporting workflows to ensure transactional integrity and operational readiness.

In 2018, BC Cancer implemented Oracle PeopleSoft HCM to serve Core HR functions across its institutional workforce. The deployment was positioned to centralize hiring workflows and HR recordkeeping while providing a formal payroll and absence management backbone for clinical and administrative staff.
Oracle PeopleSoft HCM was configured to support recruiting and onboarding activities, employee record maintenance, payroll and timekeeping, and absence and expense tracking. Operational tasks noted in the implementation included updating HR and payroll records for new hires and extended leaves, timesheet data entry and tracking for physicians and clinical teams, and maintenance of physician scheduling for meetings, conferences, and patient appointments.
Operational coverage included Clinical Trials, Clinics, Pharmacy, Chemotherapy, Medical Oncology physicians, and clerical teams, where PeopleSoft served as the authoritative system for Core HR data and workforce administration. Day to day administration encompassed scheduling upkeep and data entry across multiple departments, payroll and timekeeping for clinical trials and specialty departments, and processing of physician absences and expense records.
Governance and workflow design centralized HR operations to ensure consistent updates to hires and leave records, with defined administrative responsibilities for scheduling, ordering support for Clinical Trials and clinics, and phone and patient information handling routed through departmental administrators. Configuration emphasized role based access and process ownership for HR record updates, timesheet entry, and expense capture while operational staff retained responsibility for clinical ordering and consult request processing as part of integrated administrative workflows.

In 2018, BC Cancer implemented Microsoft Azure Machine Learning to support compute intensive processing of single cell sequencing data and advanced genomic research. Microsoft Azure Machine Learning was adopted as the core ML and Data Science Platforms capability to build, train, and operationalize machine learning and AI models that probe tumor heterogeneity and treatment resistance at single cell resolution.
The implementation concentrated on model training pipelines, experiment tracking, scalable compute provisioning, and data preparation workflows tailored for single cell genomics. Microsoft Azure Machine Learning was configured to orchestrate batch training jobs, containerized model scoring, automated hyperparameter tuning, and collaborative notebook workflows to accelerate iterative research cycles.
The platform was integrated with BC Cancer sequencing data pipelines and cloud compute resources to ingest raw sequencing reads and processed feature matrices for downstream ML workflows. Operational coverage targeted genomics and bioinformatics research teams within BC Cancer, with compute intensive workloads scheduled across elastic cloud clusters to handle large single cell datasets and parallelized analysis.
Governance introduced reproducible experiment tracking, model versioning, and shared artifact registries to formalize collaborative research workflows and ensure traceability of analytic results. The deployment of Microsoft Azure Machine Learning enabled unprecedented views into cancerous tumors and mechanisms of resistance, advancing BC Cancer's single cell research capabilities.
