In 2012, Belmont Savings Bank implemented Fiserv Cleartouch Bank Platform as its Core Banking system. The effort was executed as a year long program that began with a system study with Fiserv consultants and progressed through implementation, troubleshooting, and platform optimization focused on lending operations.
The implementation concentrated on lending and loan servicing capabilities within the Fiserv Cleartouch Bank Platform, including loan booking and closing workflows, investor loan funding and secondary market pipeline tracking, construction advance management, escrow analysis, and accounting and general ledger reconciliations. The team configured new lending product support, notably the bank's signature HELOC product, and developed paperless tracking applications for loan closing, post closing QC, and new loan booking.
Integration work connected the core banking platform to existing loan origination systems and online channel features, supporting end to end loan lifecycle processing from underwriting through servicing. Operational coverage centered on the Lending Department, encompassing loan processing, underwriting, closing, servicing, HMDA reporting, and coordination with sales, accounting, and legal stakeholders. Fiserv consultants participated in the system study and implementation phases.
Governance and process changes accompanied the technical deployment, including creation of the Lending Department Operations Manual and the bank's first HMDA and CRA procedures manual. The program instituted a system to track regulatory changes, auditor recommendations, and remediation responses, and delivered training for operations staff on new workflows and controls. Standardized procedures and shared best practices were established for loan booking, quality control, post closing review, and accounting reconciliations.
Explicit outcomes reported from the initiative include handling an 83% increase in residential volume and a 46% increase in commercial volume through projects to improve operations and automate key processes. The implementation delivered paperless tracking systems and automation of critical lending workflows within the Core Banking platform, and ongoing troubleshooting and optimization efforts addressed bank wide operational issues.
