In 2012, BES Utilities implemented Sage 50 as its ERP Financial application. The deployment centralized core finance and accounting functions for BES Utilities across its United Kingdom operations, covering general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and statutory VAT reporting workflows.
Configuration focused on standard Sage 50 modules to support transactional accounting, bank reconciliations, period-end close and financial reporting, aligning the application to the company's billing and revenue recognition processes. Operational ownership sat with the finance and accounting teams and required competency with SAGE or similar financial accounting software for daily bookkeeping, reconciliations and statutory reporting. The ERP Financial installation emphasized financial governance, audit trail visibility and month-end workflow orchestration while relying on in-house configuration and process alignment rather than named integrations.

| IRIS Software | Legacy | IRIS CascadeHR | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020, BES Utilities implemented IRIS CascadeHR in the Core HR category. The engagement included a January to August 2020 payroll leadership assignment, where a temporary Payroll Manager led the transition and integration activities while managing ongoing payroll operations.
IRIS CascadeHR was configured to serve as the central HRIS and payroll interface, consolidating payroll schedules and employee master data. Configuration work focused on consolidating multiple weekly payroll runs into a single monthly cadence, supporting routine payroll processing for a combined population described in project notes as 9,430 staff members across 14 companies, while BES Utilities is listed with 254 employees. Functional capabilities implemented included payroll processing workflows, employee record management, payroll reconciliation controls, and statutory payroll calculation support including furlough and flexi furlough computations.
Integrations and operational linkages were executed with existing payroll inputs processed in Sage and with HMRC for furlough claims and submissions. The implementation also incorporated finance reporting handoffs and stakeholder workflows to route payroll validation, employee inquiry resolution, and audit coordination across the company group. Regular payroll audits were performed and coordination occurred with internal and external auditors as part of operational controls.
Governance and process changes were formalized through people and process interventions, payroll team management, monthly one to ones, bi-annual performance reviews, development planning and succession planning for payroll staff. The project emphasized legislative compliance across payroll and related business processes, ongoing exploration of process improvements, and operationalizing furlough claim procedures in alignment with HMRC guidance.

In 2018, BES Utilities implemented Gamma Horizon Hosted Phone System in the PBX, VoiP and Phone Systems category to centralize telephony for office and field workers across the BES Group. The deployment was positioned to provide hosted PBX services for BES Utilities while coexisting with the companys broader IT estate supporting Smart Choice Metering, Card Saver and Commercial Power.
Gamma Horizon Hosted Phone System was configured to deliver standard hosted telephony capabilities, including centralized call routing, voicemail, auto attendant, handset provisioning, hunt groups and soft client support for mobile and desktop endpoints. Configuration work included provisioning IP handsets and soft clients, aligning extension and directory structures with corporate user accounts, and applying role based dial plans consistent with utility operations and field workforce connectivity needs.
The Horizon deployment was implemented into an environment managed with Windows Server 2012 and 2016, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange and Office 365, and operated on a corporate network managed by UniFi networking equipment. Operational integration and support workflows referenced in operational notes included device lifecycle management for field iOS and Android devices via MMD Scalefusion, asset discovery via Lansweeper, and co‑operation with the existing Citrix VDI footprint for office endpoint access.
Operational governance for the Gamma Horizon Hosted Phone System relied on the companys IT support model, including incident management through Freshservice tickets, remote troubleshooting with TeamViewer and AnyDesk, and internal IT training for office and field staff. Day to day administration and maintenance responsibilities were embedded in BES Groups IT function, covering handset provisioning, network quality monitoring, license and spare parts management, and escalation procedures for third party cloud and ISP related incidents.
